Primary Job Duties

A. Collect blood samples from IMC and WIC patients.

1. Ensure that ABN (Advance Beneficiary Form) forms are signed when necessary. Check patient demographics and insurance to determine where testing should be done and consult reference lab websites and/or reference laboratory books for appropriate test requirements if necessary.

B. Maintain the daily laboratory log, entering all patient, physician and test data.

C. Process all samples for in-house and send out tests.

D. Complete requisitions for reference labs, by entering data into the computer system when appropriate or by using computer-generated requisitions or manual forms.

E. Monitor reports from Quest, ensuring that all reports are finalized. Monitor Quest and LabCorp websites to ensure that all specimen related questions are answered and problems resolved, allowing the timely reporting of all reference lab reports.

F. Process all samples collected by Home Health nurses and ensure that reports for these are faxed to the appropriate agency when complete.

G. Maintain supplies in phlebotomy areas, ensuring that each drawing chair has adequate supplies within reach.

H. Maintain an adequate stock of phlebotomy supplies and reorder from reference labs when necessary. Use inventory form (see attached) to advise the lab supervisor of any supplies which need to be ordered by IMC

I. Keep phlebotomy area clean and uncluttered; disinfect chairs and countertops daily or as needed.

J. Check temperature and humidity in the phlebotomy area daily and record results on charts.

K. Handle physician, nursing and reference lab inquiries related to the specimen and/or report problems.

L. Participate in the collection and recording of QA data as requested by supervisor.

M. Assist the lab clerk/receptionist with patient check in as needed.
