Hostelling International USA (HI USA) is opening a brand-new Hostel in the heart of New Orleans and currently recruiting for a Full Time Maintenance/Housekeeping Associate.

This new Hostel is located on the edge of the French Quarter and will welcome thousands of guests from around the world each year. In line with the HI USA mission, HI New Orleans' primary goal is to promote cultural understanding. We do this by helping our guests from different countries and backgrounds get to know each other, and by striving to immerse our travelers in local perspectives on the cities they visit. Each of our hostel staff members will play a vital role in helping us introduce guests to New Orleans' vibrant culture and communities.

The Maintenance/Housekeeping Associate will split their time between maintenance and housekeeping duties at the hostel.

Maintenance Responsibilities (50%):

Ensure that all work orders are professionally completed on time and that all work orders are correctly recorded.

Maintain an on-going list of projects, and plan a daily/weekly/monthly work cycle of those projects to insure completion in a timely fashion.

Maintain and control the physical condition of the hostel within acceptable standards to provide high quality service to guests.

Plan and perform upkeep of various facilities to include grounds maintenance, building repair/renovation, preventative maintenance.

Ensure consistent cleanliness of facilities, a safe and well maintained environment and security of the guests' belongings and hostel areas.

Apply in-depth knowledge of all building operating systems such as HVAC, security and sprinkler systems, fire alarms, plumbing, heating, electrical and any other related building setup.

Perform minor/major repairs by performing such activity such as climbing ladders and lifting parts or supplies based on physical ability.

Prepare and procure bids for the negotiation of contracting work as well as submit a related report to management as needed.

Daily checks to ensure the building is functional and any necessary maintenance issues are identified and resolved.

Additional projects or duties as assigned by management.

Housekeeping Responsibilities (50%)

lean common spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, and rooms as assigned. Includes cleaning walls, floors, mirrors, and windows; dusting paintings, window sills, furniture, counters, and door frames; vacuum, mop, and buff floors as needed.

Prepare rooms for guests, including making the beds and cleaning the furniture and floors.

Complete all assigned tasks as outlined on shift checklists.

Empty trash and recycling as necessary.

Follow HI-Q Standards and Procedures.

Maintain inventory of daily supplies.

Respond quickly to guest requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner (15 min max.) and follow-up to ensure guest satisfaction.

Represent and promote the hostel and Hostelling International in a positive manner to guests, local officials, local residents, community media and the general public.

Attend mandatory monthly meetings and other training courses as directed.

Engage with guests and inquire about their stay.

Wash, dry, and put away laundry, including bedding and towels.

Help with food preparations as necessary.

Deep cleaning as necessary.

Complete all other duties as assigned by management.

Skills/Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Excellent communication skills.

Customer service and problem resolution skills.

Attention to detail.

Ability to multi-task.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write simple correspondence.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
