At Mad Science of MaineÂwe are having aÂBLAST! We pay you to have fun! Build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, explore the states of matter using dry ice, and help children make slime ÂYou will inspire the next generation of scientists, teachers and engage kids through our innovative activities. As a Mad Science Teacher you will lead students through inquiry-based instructionÂby demonstrations, hands-on activities and amazing take-home projects during our After School Programs.

Part-time positions are available for candidates who:

Have some experience teaching groups of children ages 5-12

Have at least 3 weekday afternoons available after approximately 2pm.Â

Are outgoing and have a fun personality

Have a Valid Driver's License and A Reliable Car

We are hiring After School Instructors for our Spring 2019 Session!

Session Dates: April 8 - June 21, 2019 (Training will take place the week of April 1st!)

Position Description

As an Mad Science After School Teacher/Instructor, you will facilitate 3 to 5 Mad Science Programs at schools in your area for an 8 week long session for K-5th Grade students. Each program is an hour long and will require additional time for set up and clean up before and after class. As our programs happen during after school hours, you will visit a max of five schools per week depending on your availability. Each week, you will teach a different fun, hands-on science class to your groups of kids. Some of our class topics include Walloping Weather, Movie Effects, Kitchen Chemistry, Lights Color Action, Sonic Sounds, Sun and Stars, Detective Science, and many more!

COMPENSATIONÂ-

$30-37.50 per one-hour class. With set up and tear down it averages between $15-18 per hour. Raises are given to teachers based on performance.Â

$100 Training Stipend for each 8 Week After School Session.

$15 Stipend for at Home preparation for each After School Session.

$5-10 Stipend for weekly equipment pick up.

TRAVEL REIMBURSMENTÂ- If you are scheduled for a program location that is more than a 20 mile round trip, we compensate atÂ.44/mile above the 20 miles.

REQUIREMENTS

-Must live in Southern Maine

-Must have at least a High School Diploma and be at least 20 years old

-Teaching Degree or College Degree is highly desirable but not required. (Especially a degree in education or science)

-Must have experience working with or teaching groups of children at a school, camp or after school program setting.(paid or volunteer) Having children of your own DOES NOT qualify you.

-Must be able to manage, educator, and entertain a classroom of up to 20 children (ages 5-11) at a time without an assistant.

-Must have a reliable vehicle.

-Must have a valid driver's license and current proof of automobile insurance.

-Must be available between the hours of 2:15 - 4:30pm Monday-Friday for at least 3 afternoons per week.

-Must be able and willing to travel a 15-40 minute drive to get to a program location.

-Must be able to attend our weekly equipment exchange meeting. (Thursdays, 5:30-6:30pm)

-Classroom/Group Management skills are a must.

-Lively, Energetic, child-friendly personality.

ABOUT TRAININGÂ- We set our Mad Science After-School Teachers up for success with a paid 4 hour Orientation and 5-6 hour paid Training on the curriculum and awesome gear that is used to facilitate our fun hands-on programs! This mandatory training will give you the basics you need to translate your skills into being a "Mad Scientist."Â We provide a program manual and training videos for our instructors to get familiar with the curriculum prior to our in person Orientation and Training.

PROGRAM LOCATIONSÂ- We facilitate our After School programs in various schools and recreation centers in Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Falmouth, Cumberland, Yarmouth, Freeport, Brunswick, Topsham, Durham, Windham, Standish, Bridgton, Raymond, Casco, Oxford, Norway, South Paris, Gray, New Gloucester, Westbrook, Gorham, Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Biddeford, Buxton, Sanford, Kennebunk, Wells, North Berwick, South Berwick, York, and Eliot!
