Saint Joseph's College of Maine is hiring for the position of ROUNDS COOK! This is a full-time staff position with estimated regular hours of 40 per week. Must be available for evening and weekend work.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Supports Pearson’s Café by assisting with the Pearson’s Cafe Food Program; maintaining a safe and clean work environment; and ensuring safety and sanitation.
Assisting with the Pearson’s Cafe Food Program by:
Preparing quality well sourced food by understanding and executing food handling skills in a professional kitchen environment
Performing quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
Following a set of procedures in the preparation and execution of daily meals
Executing daily assigned stations utilizing versatility and culinary knowledge
Executing assigned tasks in a timely manner to SJC food service standards
Exemplifying flexibility in cooking styles, pace and changing of assigned tasks
Supporting staff executing other stations during meal periods and assisting when needed
Ensuring all prepared ingredients are properly labeled, organized and easily assessable when stocked on shelves
Following guidelines for guests with dietary restrictions and allergies relating to food items served
Following Maine State Food Codes and Health Department regulations
Supporting Events or Pearson’s Café as business dictates
Showing enthusiasm and a positive attitude at all times while taking ownership of the Pearson's Café Food Program
Maintains a safe and clean work environment by:
Adhering to clean-as-you-go practices and established cleaning procedures
Exercising safe techniques and practices regarding interaction with the environment, equipment, food products, chemicals and people
Ensures Safety and Sanitation by:
Adhering to all Health Department, OSHA and ADA regulations
Following all Safety Manual guidelines and attends training sessions as directed
Reporting any injury, accident and/or food borne illness incident for customers and/or staff accurately and in a timely manner to the Director of Food Services and to Human Resources
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma or GED equivalent is required
ServSafe certified equivalent certificate in proper sanitation procedures and safe food handling, must provide valid certification within 120 days of hire and maintain certification
Minimum two years culinary experience

Equipment & Technology Usage:
General food service equipment such as; knives, kitchen hand-tools (peelers, can openers, whisks etc.), powered hand tools (immersion blenders, hand- mixers etc.), ovens, deep-fat fryer, steam cabinet, slicer, standing mixers, grills, flat top griddles, range, induction burners, impinger ovens, buffalo chopper food processor, Bain Marie, carts, hand trucks, food holding units, and rolling racks.
Required to wear a uniform while working to promote safety standards and a professional image. This includes and is not limited to a chef’s jacket and pants, non-slip shoes, hair properly maintained, etc.

Having a passion for food and high quality service; Ability to be trained to safely use knives and operate general kitchen equipment
Ability to be trained to work any food preparation station
Ability to produce fresh, quality healthy food products and manages these products safely and in accordance with best practices and Maine State Food Code
Ability to manage preparation and cooking times of multiple items efficiently and timely
Exhibits proper cooking techniques as outlined by menu or manager: chopping, slicing, dicing, frying, sautéing, baking, broiling, seasoning etc.
Exhibits proper cooling and reheating techniques and procedures
Exhibits proper cleaning and sanitation procedures in accordance with best practices and Maine State Food Code
Knowledge and adherence to all Health Department, OSHA, Safety guideline and ADA regulations
Possess the ability to meet Pearson’s Cafe unit specific uniform standards for this position Knowledge and adherence to all Personal Protective Equipment per OSHA guidelines
Tolerates work related stress effectively and maintains self-control/professionalism
