The Maine Property & Operations Manager (MPOM) is responsible, in coordination with the Regional Lodging Manager and Lodge Managers, for year-round support and maintenance of the Maine Wilderness Lodges (MWL), self-service cabins and backcountry campsites located on AMC’s 75,000-acre Maine Woods Initiative (MWI) within the Moosehead Lake Region of Maine. Priorities include supervising and working alongside two Full-Time Maintenance Technicians to maintain buildings, grounds, winter ski and summer hiking trails, off-grid power systems, while also coordinating capital improvement projects.

With the seasonality of our operations, the Maine Property & Operations Manager’s focus will transition based on the time of the year. Although, strategic planning for future projects will be at the forefront of priorities. The MPOM and direct reports will collaborate with all MWI staff, remote AMC departments and local contractors to ensure our greater mission is accomplished. The MPOM is a host for MWI and our Wilderness Lodges and is expected to support the delivery of AMC activities, programs and facility services. Goals and specific objectives are developed yearly and monthly based on short and long-range goals for MWI.

This is a full time, year round position with benefits.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Provide excellent leadership to two full-time Maintenance Technicians allowing for the execution of objectives and goals.

- Coordinate and manage renovation projects at all three lodges, self-service cabins and all AMC-owned and managed buildings associated with MWI through coordination and supervision of AMC’s NH Construction Crew and/or external local contractors.

- Ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of our three Wilderness Lodges to ensure facilities are in peak condition for our guests. This includes, but is not limited to, general maintenance, landscaping, snow removal and fall winterization/spring de-winterization.

- Support Land and Trails Department maintenance operations on roads, bridges and trails as needed.

- Operate, troubleshoot and maintain of facility systems including electrical (generators, inverters, PV array, battery systems), propane supply, potable water and solid waste.

- Supervise external contractors to ensure adequate supply and storage of firewood is available for Wilderness lodges & Remote cabins.

- Perform grooming and maintenance of winter ski trails under direction from MWI Land Manager and Land Department Supervisor.

- In conjunction with MWI Mechanic, perform equipment maintenance as required and supervise the storage of hand tools and power equipment, while also maintaining neatness and efficiencies.

- Under Direction of the Land Department Supervisor operate heavy machinery for snow removal, trail maintenance and infrastructure projects.

- Provide warm and welcoming information to visitors and guests about the AMC, local trails, recreation opportunities and AMC land management practices.

- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Ability to actively provide exceptional leadership to direct reports, AMC contractors and outside labor.

- 2+ years of professional carpentry and maintenance experience or equivalent relevant experience/education.

- Proven experience or willingness to learn how to operate equipment successfully and safely.

- Ability to travel to all AMC worksites in all seasons. Physical ability to travel safely in the backcountry in all-weather condition, carrying up to 40 pounds of gear.

- Ability to complete a diverse variety of tasks and work a non-conventional work schedule.

- Ability to safely operate a fleet vehicle, snowmobile, RTVs.

- Wilderness First Aid Certification required (AMC can provide and can obtained at start of employment). Wilderness First Responder preferred.

- Valid Driver’s License.

- Ability to use a computer to send and receive emails and use Microsoft Office applications.
