Job Description

We are currently seeking one Life Navigator for York County to support a new Opioid Epidemic Workforce program for individuals impacted by the opioid epidemic with employment programming, as well as laid off workers or long-term unemployed with an interest in working in front-line occupations combating the epidemic.

As a Life Navigator, you work with individuals to utilize your professional skills to help with the kinds of issues many of us face, like unreliable transportation, alcohol and drug use, domestic violence, or not having a safe place to live. You will work with each individual as a mentor/coach to make sure they are getting the support they need to cope with life, so that they can stay focused on work when they are at work.

This is a full-time position, working out of an office in Portland, Maine, with the majority of time spent traveling to meet individuals in York County.

Job Summary:

1) Builds and maintains an in-depth professional relationship with the customer by assisting in developing and carrying out a personal plan to address life barriers; makes appropriate referrals to social service providers; continues supporting the customer post-employment until the job is sustainable and customer has built a system of natural supports.

  • Interviews customer to collect information and observes their support system using intake data.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with lead service providers in the community in order to make needed referrals for the customer.
  • Counsels customers in overcoming life barriers; assists them in finding and utilizing resources to aid in overcoming identified barriers.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate customer personal plans, progress summaries, progress notes and other documentation as needed.

2) Represents the Agency in all interactions with other members of the Goodwill community and with the general public, supporting the agency Vision of creating sustainable communities that thrive through the fullest participation of their diverse residents.

3) Furthers the organizational commitment to triple bottom line results: integrating social, economic and environmental goals into thinking, planning and actions.

Essential Functions:

Communication

  • Interviews customer to collect information and observes their support system using intake data.
  • Counsels and aids customers requiring assistance in overcoming life barriers; assists them in finding and utilizing resources to aid in overcoming identified barriers.
  • Counsels customers regarding plans for meeting needs, and aids them in mobilizing inner capacities and environmental resources to improve life circumstances.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously with colleagues, customers, and community partners.
  • Collaborates regularly with members of Workforce team.
  • Continues supporting the customer post-employment until the job is sustainable and customer has built a system of natural supports.

Knowledge

  • Solid working knowledge of the strengths perspective and Eco mapping when developing plans and actions.
  • Possesses and maintains knowledge of lead service providers in the community.
  • Utilizes various interview techniques for serving a diverse range of customers.

Administration

  • Prepares and maintains accurate customer personal plans, progress summaries, progress notes and other documentation as needed.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with lead service providers in the community in order to make needed referrals for the customer.

Financial

  • Follows fiscal approval processes and policies.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Social Work, Psychology, or related social services field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.2+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver’s license permitting operation of a vehicle with a safe driving record.
  • Criminal background check that meets Agency standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LCSW, LCPC, LADC, LMSW or related certification/license.
  • 4+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience supporting clients with barriers to employment.
