The Controller will be a full-time employment opportunity and will be located in the Baltimore, Maryland region. Candidates who can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and build and lead departmental staff, will be preferred for this position. Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies
Research, prepare and execute Finance Department initiatives such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as required
Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
Act on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Collaborate with executive team and partners to support efficient and effective firm-wide operation
Meet client expectations by reviewing deliverables of self and team to make sure they meet client satisfaction
Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll
Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports
Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time
Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis
Requirements
Demonstrated analytical abilities, tendency to quickly connect dots and surmise logical outcomes
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred
Ability to meet deadlines
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Self-starter and strong ethical standards
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
CPA/MBA preferred
Proficiency in investment accounting
Financial statement preparation experience
Financial auditing experience
Expertise in month end closings
Adeptness in equity accounting
Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations
Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued
Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired
