Job Description

Overview:

The Crypsis Group is seeking a Security Research Consultant to join our growing team. The Security Research Consultant will work in tandem with the Threat Intelligence Analyst and Network Traffic Analyst teams to investigate suspected malicious applications including mobile applications, web browser extensions, desktop applications, and more. Suspected malicious applications will be tested in a sandboxed environment with proxies capturing all network traffic. The Security Research Consultant will work to identify anomalous activities within captured web traffic logs as well as supplemental information discovered via network traffic analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • The Security Research Consultant will partner with the Threat Intelligence Analyst and Network Traffic Analyst teams to investigate mobile applications, website, browser extensions, and other digital assets
  • Leverage physical and emulated sandboxed environments for analysis
  • Leverage proxy technologies to capture web traffic generated by applications
  • Inspect web traffic logs from testing sessions to identify anomalous or suspicious activity initiated by applications
  • Identify unauthorized exfiltration, handling, or use of end-user data including Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”), created content, credentials, etc
  • Understand and adhere to basic operational security (“OPSEC”) concepts
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast paced, high demand environment
  • Demonstrate a resourceful and creative approach to solving technical problems
  • Work in tandem with the Network Traffic Analyst team to compare web traffic logs and identify anomalies
  • Regularly and uniformly report findings. Create a narrative to the analysis performed
  • Ability to multi-task and experience context switching to work on multiple applications. Also stay up to date with prioritized requests and follow-ups
  • Continuous involvement in workstream growth and process improvement
  • Interface directly with a client in a professional manner. Field technical client questions in a non-technical and easily understandable manner to a non-technical audience
  • Demonstrate strong communication between workstreams and team members

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in security research, Digital Forensics and Incident Response (“DFIR”), web traffic analysis, digital investigations, or other applicable professional experience. Offensive security experience preferred but not required
  • Former professional services and consulting experience preferred.
  • Experience with Virtual Machines (“VMs”)
  • Experience with working on long-term engagements with multi-functional teams comprised of outsourced entities, legal, and operational business units
  • Experience adhering to rigorous and detailed instructions while also thinking creatively and solving problems. Attention to detail is a must.
  • Knowledge of command line interfaces or scripting tools a plus
  • Knowledge of reverse engineering, static code analysis, encryption, and encoding methods a plus
