Set in the Baltimore, Maryland area, the company offering this short-term contract / temporary opportunity encourages innovation and rewards effort in the work place. The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. The majority of time spent will be dedicated to producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. During the monthly close, you will be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting. In addition, your responsibilities include communicating with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, playing an active role in compliance, and reviewing schedules for the reporting processes.Major responsibilitiesMaintain monthly payment schedules
Participate in various department-wide initiatives
Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management
Maintain intricate journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
Execute month end close, journal entries, with little supervision
Ad-hoc tasks and special projects, as needed
Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner
Take part the in implementation and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP
Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
Partake in annual closing processes Requirements - Bachelors / Honours Degree required
Critical thinking skills and the ability to retain complex work directions
Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines
Attentive, ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
Knowledgeable of ERP systems
Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
General familiarity with Accounts Receivable (AR)
Knowledge of journal entries
Well-founded grasp of payroll
Wide ranging experience with Check Deposit
Proven knowledge of Balance Sheet Account Reconciliation
Practical knowledge of month end closings
Earlier work involving Microsoft Excel
Financial Statement experience
Foundational knowledge in Accounts Payable (AP)
Proficiency in QuickBooks
Bank reconciliations experience
Quality experience with Cash Deposits
Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities
Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
Recent and relevant accounting experience
Spreadsheet and database capabilities
