Summary: Conducts sample tests and investigations on materials to obtain data for use by public and private clientele for the purposes of structural ,engineering, and architectural design, planning and plan verification by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Collects and prepares samples for analysis in accordance with established protocols.

Conducts chemical and physical laboratory tests according to prescribed standards to determine characteristics or composition materials including but not limited to concrete, soil, asphalt, aggregate and other substances in the laboratory.

Prepares sample for testing, records data, prepares summaries and charts for review, and develops a report detailing activities performed and results received.

Calibrates monitoring equipment to provide proper flow of information.

Installs, operates, and performs some routine maintenance on systems, mechanical equipment, and other test instrumentation.

May assist with the installation of equipment and instrumentation including calibration and troubleshooting as needed.

Operates fixed or mobile data collection and analysis stations.

Audits properties of samples collected to identify physical evidence of properties and conditions.

Is consistently professional, effective and courteous in communication, conduct and appearance.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Minimum requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. College Degree and/or experience preferred.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in predominantly standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

No Computer skills needed, but basic abilities desired.

Certificates and Licenses:

No certification required for hire.

Candidates with WACEL or NICET certification encouraged to apply.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
