Title: Production Technician

Hours: 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday - Friday

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Pay Rate: $24.50/HR

Please reply to this posting for immediate consideration.Summary: The position is focused on supporting production of therapeutic proteins in Development Scale UP Center. Responsibilities include preparing media and buffer solutions and executing cell culture and/or purification steps with pilot scale equipment and systems.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Development Scale Up Center (DSC) at in the Manufacturing Sciences department (within Research and Development) is responsible for scale up, technology transfer, and facility fit assessment of clinical and commercial processes to manufacturing.

The R&D Associate will also be responsible for producing development drug substance material for toxicology studies and meet material demands for development.

The data generated from the pilot scale facility (Development Scale Up Center, DSC) is used to determine facility fit and assist with the tech transfer.

The candidate must be able to perform upstream and/or downstream production, including all activities from vial thaw through formulation of drug substance at pilot-scale.

DSC, in collaboration with cell culture and purification development and process engineers within R&D, also evaluate innovative technology, implement novel process control/automation methods and support scale down model development.

The environment is challenging and ever-changing, with varying degrees of process definition and frequent piloting of novel process operations and novel molecule formats.

Qualifications:

This is a hands-on, laboratory/pilot plant position that requires good laboratory skills and ability to follow standard procedures.

Operating balances, filtration equipment, use of aseptic techniques, water systems, peristaltic pumps, laminar flow hoods, pH meters, conductivity meters and other laboratory equipment.

Preparation of reagents, buffers, cell culture media.

Maintain chemical and lab supplies inventory and requests vendor quotes as needed.

Familiarity with bench and pilot scale bioreactors, mixing systems, filtration and chromatography skids is a plus.

Strong problem-solving, documentation and organizational skills with a focus on details and results.

Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with functional group members, project teams, manufacturing personnel, and suppliers is essential.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

General knowledge of cell culture and purification processes is a plus.

Education:

This position can be filled at either the Research Associate I or Research Associate II level.

The Research Associate I level requires a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or related field with 0 to 2 years of combined industry related process development, manufacturing, or related field.

The Research Associate II level requires a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or related field with 2 to 5 years of combined industry related process development, manufacturing, or related field.

Special Skills/ Abilities

Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic work environment is a must.

Skills should include an understanding of purification/cell culture unit operations, and general laboratory techniques and instrumentation.

The candidate should be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

The candidate should be self-motivated and possess good interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills. This position reports to a Manager within the DSC.
