Linux System Administrator
- Contract role in Gaithersburg, MD
RedStream Technology is seeking a Linux System Administrator to join the team of a leading medical services provider and help to build and strengthen a rapidly expanding Linux environment.
The infrastructure you will be working with supports cutting edge medical technology. As a Linux System Administrator, your will be responsible for adding appropriate admin redundancy for local HPC and Linux systems, proactively managing local HPC and storage, and establishing and executing a process for control and validation of system updates.
Daily Responsibilities:

  • Installing, configuring, maintaining and refreshing local HPC and various Linux systems in production and staging environments
  • Proactively managing local HPC and storage including developing and maintaining a long-term roadmap/budget for necessary expansion and replacement of obsolete hardware, taking into account our ongoing migration to cloud
  • Establishing and executing a process for control and validation of system updates (e.g. OS, package/library updates)
  • Supporting large-scale, rapidly growing Linux server environment on-prem and cloud (Azure)
  • Reducing single points of failure in the server environment
  • Collaborating to build tools and scripts for automating various system administration tasks
  • Performance tuning and backup for both pre-prod and prod environments
  • Optimizing hardware use for various applications, including in-house IO intensive applications and distributed databases
  • Tier 3 troubleshooting of hardware and system issues, including root cause analysis, incident reporting, communication and escalation
  • Evaluating cloud technology and hardware platforms, and integrating them into our production environment
  • Maintaining system security by remediating identified faults and vulnerable areas within the system or application
  • Providing documentation of supported systems, processes and access control
  • Working with internal customers and peers (Systems engineering, Networking, Cybersecurity etc.) through tickets / email / phone
  • Contributing to BRLI's Business Continuity Planning/Disaster Recovery efforts
  • Adhering and enforcing compliance guidelines i.e., HIPAA, PCI, & Sarbanes Oxley
  • Ensuring all Patient Health Information, Credit Card, and Financial information remains protected
  • Supporting Audit Compliance – HIPAA, State, CAP & CLIA, Sarbanes Oxley
  • On call 24x7

Skills and Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a Linux environment
  • 5+ years of experience deploying and supporting servers in a 24/7 production environment
  • Experience working with common scripting languages
  • Experience troubleshooting server hardware (HPC) and network issues
  • Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills and the ability to communicate and interact with all team members
  • Familiar with HIPAA, PCI, NIST, ISO, SANS, ITIL, COBIT, COSO, SOXS, Security frameworks & CIS benchmarks

Required Technical Proficiencies:

  • OS: Primarily Debian; Redhat Enterprise / CentOS 7
  • Hardware: Primarily Dell; Hitachi; ThinkMate; PureStorage; HP servers

Education:

  • B.S./B.A. in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience
