Description

SAIC is seeking a Workforce Development Manager to support the Omnibus Multidisciplinary Engineering Support Services (OMES II) contract in support of the On-Orbit Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing (OSAM-1) program within NASA's Exploration and In-Space Services Projects (NExIS) division. This position location is NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.

OSAM-1 is a robotic servicing mission designed to refuel a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite. It contains 3 elements: the Flight Element comprised of the OSAM-1 Servicing Vehicle (RSV) and development testbeds, the Ground Element comprised of the systems required to conduct RSV operations and the supporting networks and facilities, and the Launch Element comprised of the Launch Vehicle and supporting facilities and services. NExIS is responsible for the design, engineering, development, test, and operations of the OSAM-1 Mission through an integrated team at GSFC. The Servicing Payload design, development and RSV integration will be conducted at GSFC.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Workforce Development Manager will be primarily engaged in activities associated with training and mentorship of new-hire engineers within the program, to ensure that those engineers have the proper tools to be successful working on NASA Goddard flight programs.

Job duties include:
  • Provide training and direction for new and existing engineers regarding Goddard-specific processes for engineering functions. For example, drawing release processes.
  • Generate documents and procedures, training materials, or other materials necessary to minimize the time necessary for new-hire engineers to become fully capable within the Goddard flight project environment.
  • Provide mentorship to junior and senior engineers to encourage career development and open opportunities to advance within their field or to a related field.
  • Tracks, manages, and reports on technical and programmatic milestones and deliverables related to job duties.
  • Meet with customer(s) to assess effectiveness of assigned programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by OMES II or SAIC Management

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of experience working in an engineering capacity on a flight program at NASA Goddard.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Goddard-specific engineering processes, standards, and best practices for flight and ground support equipment applications.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to professionally interact with customers, subcontractors, engineers, and management.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Engineering experience on the NASA OSAM-1 (Restore-L) mission.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Experience at the Chief Engineer level, or equivalent, supporting a NASA Goddard flight program.
