job summary:
Our client is seeking a junior information security assessor who can work as part of a team as well as work independently on tasks related to auditing information systems for compliance with Federal security requirements. The candidate should also be able to assist in planning and implementing security measures to mitigate risks identified in the assessments to protect computer systems, networks and data. The individual in this position interacts closely with product vendors and service providers, personnel from various internal IT departments - including the application development, operations and network, and privacy teams - and with business departments.

responsibilities:
Author project security authorization packages that must comply with FISMA and the NIST Risk Management Framework.
Plan and implement security measures to protect computer systems, networks and data.
Prevent loss and service interruptions by researching new technologies that will effectively protect a network.
Perform threat and vulnerability assessments, in some cases followed by appropriate remedial action, to ensure that systems are protected from known and potential threats and are free from known vulnerabilities.
Create, collect information, and maintain Westat security assessment Evidence Library.
Formulate recommendations to resolve problems impacting the quality and effectiveness of security controls in software development projects.
Participate in information security working groups.
