Position Type: Full-time

General Description: The Job Developer is responsible for developing competitive, paid employment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, therefore will spend the majority of the work day in the community. The Job Developer is required to learn about and network with community small businesses in order to find employment placements that are best suited to the needs of job seekers. The Job Developer will be trained to use the ACRE approved community employment approach to job development.

Education/Training/License/Certification Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in Business, Rehabilitation Counseling, Human Services or related field

•At least one year experience developing jobs in the community

•Valid Maryland driver’s license

Job Duties:

•Work directly with job seekers who experience impact of disability to obtain employment in their community at minimum wage or above

•Creation of a vocational presence, marketing and representing organization to prospective employers as well as agencies/organizations/committees who can assist in advancing the employment opportunities for those with developmental and intellectual disabilities

•Attend some evening events to help promote organization’s mission

•Develop and maintain regular business contacts in the community that produce customized employment

•Utilize customized employment techniques including Discovery and Person Centered Planning to offer customized employment services

•Through observation, individual interviews and general interactions the Job Developer identifies job seeker’s skills, abilities, conditions and contributions to customize the employer relationship

•Use information learned about a job seeker to develop a plan toward meaningful employment and conduct analysis of benefits to customize the employment relationship between the job seeker and employer

•Act as a liaison in the community to ensure smooth transition and continuity of service between job seeker and employer

•Work effectively with a team to enhance service delivery while respecting the right to privacy for participants and confidentiality requirements

•Maintain constant contact with the Vocational Counselor about all participant related information

•Develop and maintain professional relationships and communicate appropriately with all job seekers and stakeholders (i.e. parents, guardians, advocates, employers, community coordinators, etc.)

•Meet with supervisor weekly to discuss progress and provide updated schedule of work activities

•Comply with documentation policies by submitting accurate and timely paperwork, including progress notes, documentation, expense logs and other required reports

•Attend meetings for individuals (annual and interim)

•Travel train individuals as needed

Skills:

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills

•Ability to learn working knowledge of the job seeker’s community

•Ability to work successfully, unsupervised, as well as part of a team

•Skill in teaching others how to do something

•Skill in interpreting how the job seeker’s complexities impact work skills, including needed supports

•Skill in researching information through a variety of media sources and apply information in conversational settings

•Ability to break down a process into individual components
