DescriptionTHIS IS FULL TIME POSITION LOCATED IN UPPER MARLBORO, MD.HORTICULTURE COORDINATORCOMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISIONMelwood’s mission is to create jobs and opportunities for people with differing disabilities so they can have a good quality of lifeINTRODUCTIONThe Horticulture Coordinator is responsible for the schedule of the Horticulture work and training program in the Garden Center. Working with the Horticulture Therapist to determine the work, activities and training for the Individuals in the Crossroads Program. Delegate tasks and activities to the Development Coaches assigned to the Garden Center.RESPONSIBILITIES

Team leader for the day services horticulture program participants. Supports all other day services programs as needed.

Work with assigned individuals to implement their Individual Plan within the Crossroads program integrating them into all aspects of the Crossroads program.

Inform management staff and other interdisciplinary team members on behavioral and programmatic issues that occur.

Provides services as outlined in Individual Plans – ensuring goals are developed, implemented, and progress benchmarks are being met.

Demonstrates positive behavioral management techniques and communicates with individuals in a person-centered, age appropriate manner.

Complete progress notes, daily logs, timesheets, individual planning activities and other documentation thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner.

Facilitate individual’s self-esteem through positive interactions and building a relationship of trust.

Attend and actively participate in required training, stakeholder team meetings and supervision meetings.

Assist the Horticulture Therapist to make a schedule of daily garden center work activities for the individuals.

Pull plant material for sales and Special Orders.

Support the Horticultural Therapist to ensure proper care of the greenhouses and plants.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISEDNone.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDReports to the Program Director, Traditional Day Services.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSFlexible schedule will be required due to varying hours. Must be able to stand/walk 50% of work time, sit and/or drive 50%. Must be able to lift, carry, push and/or pull 60 pounds. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach. All of these requirements are necessary in order to supervise and assist individuals with disabilities.QUALIFICATIONSH.S. Diploma or equivalent required. BA/BS in Horticulture, Psychology, Therapy or related field preferred. One year work experience in greenhouse operations. Prior work experience with people with disabilities or behavioral issues preferred. Must have good driving record and valid driver's license. Demonstrated ability in providing support in a respectful manner that meets the various needs of individuals served.This position may require use of your personal vehicle to transport persons-served. All Melwood transportation policies must be followed and liability insurance on your personal vehicle must be in full force and effect while transporting for or on the behalf of Melwood. Melwood will reimburse for mileage pursuant to the Travel policy.
