Cabot is looking for a Sr. Research Associate to join the Battery Material team. This person will work under limited supervision to perform hands-on laboratory tasks in support of product development and application research. Work closely with scientists and engineers to develop processes and formulations for next-generation lithium-ion batteries.
Make slurries, electrodes, assemble and test performance in coin-cells and pouch cells.
Gather and organize the testing results in excel spreadsheet and provide preliminary interpretation.
May be involved in the development of new methods, modify formulations or processes.
Set up, troubleshoot and maintain test equipment, reorder lab supplies.
Have good understanding of how the equipment/processes work, perform small mechanical work around the lab.
Perform laboratory work safely and skillfully and maintain lab to high standard of housekeeping.
May assist in the training of others in areas of testing, compliance, equipment, and safety requirements.

Secondary education a minimum of 4 years of related experience
Or Associate degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience
Or Post-secondary degree (Bachelor’s) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Material Science with 1+ years of related experience
Demonstrated knowledge in the specified field (chemistry, chemical engineering, or material science). Prior electrochemical/battery experience is desired but not required.
Prior experience with lithium-ion batteries fabrication processes or other electrochemical systems is preferred.
Prior experience with Maccor testing equipment or equivalent is a plus.
Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills; strong observation and hands-on skills.
Communication skills: ability to develop and produce reports and presentations.
Quality and precision oriented. Displays great care in observing and following protocols.
Ability to classify and organize data in a logical and orderly way as well as plan work to ensure timely completion of assignments.
Basic knowledge of statistics as used in data generation and presentations.
Basic knowledge of work place safety, health and environmental guidelines.
Collaborative attitude and inter-personal skills; willing to share information and resources with peers. Team player; “Can do” attitude.
