The Senior Director, Medical Scientific Liaison will lead the Immunology (Rheumatology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology) U.

S. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team. The team provides scientific support related to the current and future Janssen Biotech (JBI) products to opinion leaders, investigators, community practitioners, population health decision makers and other healthcare providers.

This position is also responsible for strategic oversight of the MSL Communications Group and of training lead for Medical Affairs department.

This position may also lead MA cross-functional initiatives / projects within JBI or across Janssen.

Lead the development and execution of the U.S. Immunology MSL strategies and tactics, through collaborative partnership with the MSL leadership team and relevant stakeholders, including Commercial.

Seek opportunities to optimize MSLs ways of working internally and externally.

Lead strategy for education of opinion leaders and community practitioners on the clinical application of JBI’s approved and emerging Immunology products with compliant, relevant, and timely reactive and proactive materials.

Partnering with Commercial leaders for defining and executing MSL best practices for provision of scientific support to Sales and Marketing.

Areas of interaction would include launch collaboration, sales training, field support for educational gap identification, national / regional meetings, strategic account planning, and other compliant aspects as needed.

Collaboration with U.S. Medical Affairs and Research & Development to define and implement how MSLs can support of Phase II to IV clinical trials, including site identification and assessment, education of investigators on safety and efficacy of investigational agents, and recruitment events.

Also, guide how MSLs provide support to investigator’s requests for investigator-initiated studies according to company guidelines.

Communication of customer feedback and intelligence to Business and Medical Affairs partners on market environment, promotional and clinical strategies, competition, and other developments relevant to JBI’s Immunology commercial and clinical strategies.

Recruiting and hiring a qualified and diverse work force for the MSL and MSL Communications team and drive high engagement and scientific excellence.

Responsible for MSL team performance according to company legal, HCC and regulatory guidelines. Monitor team’s performance metrics and report data to key company partners.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining training and soft skills building as well as MSL team career planning, and succession planning in support of employees reaching their highest potential, while providing oversight of the coaching MSL managers provide where needed for employee’s areas of improvement.

Representation of JBI and support of MSLs at scientific meetings including congresses, symposia, advisory boards, and investigator meetings.

Interpret and report findings, with recommendations for actions to internal stakeholders.

May lead or participate in Medical Affairs projects or initiatives as needed.

May lead or participate in cross-functional, cross-company and cross organization projects having a significant impact on patient care, and implementation of company strategies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience :

Required Minimum Education : BA / BS and other advanced degree (such as MD, MS, PhD, or PharmD preferred) in a scientific or clinical discipline

Required Years of Related Experience :

A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry (or within related areas, preferably Scientific Liaison, medical communication, clinical research, academic position in health science or research) with 3-5 years of people leadership experience and / or leading cross-functional teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Must Be Fluent in this English Language And Have Excellent Oral, Written, And Interpersonal Communication Skills.

Knowledge of Clinical Trial Methodology And Research Standards

In-depth understanding of regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines / policies.
