General Summary:

Nightshade Noodle Bar, acclaimed French & Vietnamese tasting menu restaurant from Chef/Owner Rachel Miller, a finalist for the 2023 Outstanding Chef award by the James Beard Foundation and semifinalist for Best Chef: Northeast 2024, is currently accepting applications for a Floor Manager to join their small and passionate team. Nightshade Noodle Bar, recipient of an elusive 5 star review in The Boston Globe and named among the top 25 restaurants in Boston by The New York Times, offers eclectic nine to twenty-one course blind tasting experiences featuring both local and luxury seafood and noodle dishes, chic jungle vibes + a beverage menu to suit in downtown Lynn.

The Floor Manager will oversee all positions + operations in the front of the house, acting as host, back server and general support person. This position acts as the restaurant's face and voice by coordinating reservations and ensuring excellent guest experiences while managing the dining room during service. This position will work with the Director of Operations, Chef, front of house (FOH) team, and reservationist to ensure intimate, tailored experiences for each of our wonderful guests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist the FOH team in opening and closing the restaurant.

Assist Ownership with the restaurant's operation, maintenance of the facility, oversight of existing systems, and general restaurant development.

Be a liaison between the guests and the Chef by ensuring that dietary restrictions, occasion requests and all other relevant information are communicated and addressed.

Take the lead on FOH training- using existing systems and developing ongoing education along with the Director of Operations + Chef.

Maintain thorough knowledge of the beverage program and an ability to offer beverage pairings and describe beverage offerings.

Maintain ambiance by controlling lights, volume, glassware, linens, table settings and menu cleanliness/condition.

Attend and assist with daily food and beverage training classes.

Qualifications:

Professionals with at least 3 years of experience managing an upscale restaurant are organized and dedicated and truly appreciate the hospitality industry. Professionalism, a desire to learn, and self-awareness are also a must. We value longevity and are looking for people to grow with us.

Skills/ Competencies Required:

Commitment to creative, warm, and consistent hospitality.

Ability to model standards and anticipate guest and team needs.

A genuine desire to learn and grow as a professional in the service industry.

Experience with Adobe, Tock, and Toast systems preferred.

Some formal wine education (CMS, WSET, etc) is strongly preferred.

Prior experience serving and selling a rotating wine and spirit list, and comfort selling items at higher prices.

Ability to uphold a standard of learning and training with independence and pride.

Solution-oriented approach to challenges and a generally positive attitude.

A genuine desire to learn and grow as a professional in the service industry.

Ability to stand for long periods and use two hands to run food and clear tables.

Working Conditions:

This position is full-time, Wednesday through Sunday (we are only open 4 days per week). Shifts on service days start as early as 11am and end as late as 1am. Wednesdays are flexible prep/admin days and can be arranged with some autonomy once the candidate is settled into their role.

The check average at Nightshade Noodle Bar is $300-$400, and a 20% administrative fee is included on all orders in lieu of a tip. Nightshade Noodle Bar reservations generally book out several weeks in advance. Schedules are consistent and, for the most part, set in stone. Paychecks are issued weekly.
