The Main Idea at Camp Walden is a two week program that provides economically disadvantaged girls with a 10-day summer camp experience that builds self-confidence, promotes leadership skills, and creates a trusting and secure environment, all within the natural splendor of the Maine woods.

The Main Idea is looking for role models who have a positive outlook on life. Are you energetic and flexible and do you believe in the life-changing results that a magical camp experience can have for a child? A willingness to dole out smiles, hugs, high-fives, and encouragement is a must. Be prepared to have tons of fun in the process!

If you love working with children and want to make a difference in our campers lives while being in the great outdoors, then The Main Idea at Camp Walden is the place for you!

Camp runs from August 11th - August 25th. Counselors must be working at camp for the entire period.

All nursing applicants must have the ability to practice autonomously and to also work collaboratively with camp counselors, administrative staff and the camp director.

You must have experience with minor injuries / medical matters that occur daily with female children ages 8-18 such as (but not limited to): falls, scrapes, bruises, twisted ankles, insect bites, nausea / vomiting / loose stools, beginning menses, menstrual cramping, headaches, sun burns and minor dehydration from having fun in the sun all day!

Ability to provide basic care for all of the above - and possession of the medical knowledge and confidence to accurately assess when it is medically indicated to send a child to the ER for care that cannot be provided at the camp.

Basic computer skills with ability to quickly learn / adapt to the online camp database.

Ability to provide basic care - (similar level of care to that of campers) for both male and female staff of all ages.

Proficiency in completing / managing MAR's as well as passing prescribed medications to campers.

Communication with all staff in a timely and professional manner.

Excellent bedside manner with a sensitivity to the needs of both staff and campers.

Understanding of the medically underserved and low socioeconomic status that often results in emotional / mental problems, such as food insecurities for the campers.

Education and full understanding of ACE's and the effect of trauma on the physical, mental, emotional and cognitive well being of children.

Ability to be empathetic, compassionate and non-judgmental - meeting all campers and staff where they are, to provide both medical and emotional support as needed is required.

Must have a valid Maine Nursing License or is able to qualify for Maine Licensure.

Must hold a current BLS Certification by an American Heart Association approved course.

Salary is based on experience and licensing specifics. Room, board and travel expenses (up to $200) is part of the salary package.
