SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT, Office of the Vice President for Finance (VPF), to be responsible for daily accounting operations, including financial reporting, reconciliation, compliance, analysis, control, and improvement of financial functions of assigned areas. Will manage master data creation and maintenance, including general ledger (G/L) accounts, profit centers, and costing sheets related to MIT’s trial balance and financial statements; drive monthly and year-end close processes; answer questions regarding accounting and management of cost objects and G/L accounts; prepare account reconciliations; assist junior staff; prepare schedules supporting financial reporting; data analysis; participate in audit activities; coordinate and/or provide input into major elements of projects/programs/systems; work with Information Systems and Technology on matters affecting accounting and financial systems; participate SAP report and functionality testing; and perform additional duties as assigned. Job RequirementsREQUIRED: bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in accounting, business, or related field; three years’ related financial accounting and reporting experience; knowledge of accounting principles and relevant federal regulations; experience delivering exemplary customer service; proficiency with Excel and Word; excellent problem identification and problem-solving skills; collaborative, proactive interpersonal and communication skills; and experience with reporting tools such as BrioQuery and/or Cognos. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team; manage multiple conflicting priorities and meet strict deadlines; collaborate with a diverse group of individuals from varying backgrounds and levels; and function effectively in a complex, busy, changing environment. PREFERRED: experience with corporate finance, financial reporting, budgeting, accounting, and managing business processes; experience defining and creating reports and dashboards; CPA; experience with SAP or similar accounting and reporting systems; and experience in higher education or nonprofit accounting.
