The Ocean House Restaurant has been a favorite destination for decades. Located directly overlooking the Nantucket Sound, on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Our award-winning culinary team, led by the Culinary Institute of America's Alumni, Executive Chef Anthony Silvestri, is now hiring an exceptional Pastry Chef to join our team. If you have the experience, both operating and leading a pastry program in a high volume, restaurant or resort, with exceptional attention for detail, we look forward to your application. Responsibilities

Overseeing the daily operation of preparing pastry, desserts, sweet additions for our award-winning restaurant, resort, and café

Manage and assign tasks to cooks, assistants, interns, and others as needed to ensure deliveries are properly received, dated, rotated and put away in the right place.

Optimize profits by controlling food and labor costs.

Preparing food daily in a safe, sanitary manner as detailed by our, Executive Chef Anthony Silvestry

Assisting with safety and training procedures in the handling of foodservice equipment

Communicate with other team members, and owners and front of the house management and staff to ensure successful execution of daily offerings.

Scheduling and instructing staff to follow your procedures and preparations at the time of service. Note you may be working AM hours, but the principal service would be in the PM which may require preparing the dessert and pastry in such a manner that can be accurately delivered to our guests with the excellence both you intend our guests expect, and executive and ownership requirements.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in a restaurant.

Ensure daily events are properly executed.

Communicate with other departments and front of the house management and staff to ensure the successful execution of daily events.

Ensure excellent food quality at all times.

Proven track record in improving kitchen efficiencies, quality, food, and labor costs

Experience in a high volume restaurant, and able to produce high volume with high quality, consistently.

While you will be responsible for your department, the products that are produced, flexibility and cooperation with the Executive Staff, and ownership.

High School Diploma or equivalent required, Culinary Degree strongly preferred, but a referenced track record of excellence by experience will be considered.

Must have knowledge of kitchen sanitation, operation, and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

Outstanding attention to detail - both personal grooming/appearance and properly identifying guests' needs, demeanor, and level of required service attention.

Diploma in Culinary Management is preferred.

Food safety certified.

Strong leadership and communication skills. Has a leadership style that is developmental vs. policing, promotes a culture of dialogue, role models values and practices of the company.
