Mollusk (Seashell) Cataloging & Possible Math/CompSci Analysis (Woods Hole)

Vacancy expired!

A part time, summer, opportunity is available for a college level student, in organizing and cataloging a rather remarkable private collection of mollusk sea shells, with an unusually rich concentration on growth series.

The collection is the project of a Harvard faculty member. The project could develop a research component, with the opportunity of publication, depending upon the interests of the student.

A possible, but not required, aspect of this collection is that many of the specimens have also undergone high resolution 3D Micro CT imaging, perhaps a unique resource for comprehending the mathematics of mollusk growth and development. If of interest, 3D image analysis software and high power computer resources for this work are available. But, core task is cataloging.

A small stipend is available for such an individual, but this is principally a research opportunity.
