This person will start 100% onsite until they are fully onboarded/up and running. After the first 6-9 months, the person will be able to work 1-2 days/week remotely.
Clearable - Candidate will need to get an Interim Clearance before they can start - active clearance is highly preferred.
Summary of Position:
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, producibility, cost, safety, design allowable and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Utilizes and validates 3-D and digital modeling to communicate and support production. Tools utilized such as CATIA, IDEAS, Siemens PLM Software NX, ProEngineer and a variety of analytical software applications.
Job Description:
The Group is seeking an engineer with expertise in structural engineering for sea, ground, air, and space-based payloads.
Experience with predicting the mechanical behavior of structures using finite element analysis for static and dynamic environments, performing vibration and shock environmental testing, and developing tests to characterize the behavior of structural components is desired. The successful candidate will be a part of an interdisciplinary engineering team from concept development to integration and testing in the development of operational prototype hardware. Candidate should have ability to perform hand calculations in conjunction with utilization of CAD and finite element analysis software, such as FEMAP, NASTRAN, SOLIDWORKS, and ANSYS.
Must Haves:
3+ years of experience with static and dynamic structural modeling and analysis - They have no problem utilizing a Sr level candidate for this role
Nice to Haves:
Experience with structural testing and model correlation
Experience with STOP (Structural, Thermal, Optical Performance) analysis
Experience with LOS (Line-of-Sight) Jitter analysis
Analysis and test of structural solutions involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for terrestrial, airborne, and space-based systems
Specific analysis to include damage tolerance, safety and performance
Specific structural engineering specialties may include:
Static and dynamic load analysis and test
Fatigue analysis
Thermal loads analysis
Structural/thermal/optical - optical is a true nice to have
Solidworks would be a plus since that is a tool being used to extract data
Whomever applies should have strong experience with some commercial finite element software: could be Nastran, Ansys, Abaqus, etc. - not required to be a specific tool. They all function similarly, but the individual would need to understand how these tools function. Candidate should not just have design tool experience, but specific experience with a finite element tool.
Daily Duties: attending program meetings, coordinating with staff for oversight/direction, summarize and present results, support test and assembly activities
The person hired will work across a broad scope of programs. Programs are working on hardware that are being flown into space or on aircraft.
Past industry/company experience that has been helpful before: previous government primes (like BAE), alignment with folks doing precision systems work with optical systems/laser systems/RF systems, aerospace companies.
Bachelor's degree is fine for education level
Not a thermal engineer ; this role may apply information that comes from the thermal engineer for analysis. Basic load expansion when Hot/Cold
Know when to use Models vs Hand Cals
Exposure to Testing
THIRD PARTY AGENCIES, SUBCONTRACTORS, AND RECRUITERS NEED NOT APPLY. Applicants received from firms will not be considered. Subcontracting is not available for this position.
