Title: Lead Hardware Engineer

The Hardware Lead Engineer will be responsible for engineering cost and schedule performance as a Cost Account Manager (CAM), and will have significant interaction with customers, program managers, program chief engineers, and lead systems engineers. The selected person will be an energetic and excellent communicator and will help guide the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects within the ATS product line including participating in program gates and independent reviews, proposals and pricing, strategy, and staffing.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of hardware engineers to find new methods and approaches to reduce cost and schedule
  • Accountable for hardware engineering execution on program including technical approach, quality and technical performance of work products generated as well as cost and schedule commitments
  • Elevate risks and issues related to program execution and staffing
  • Ensure executable plans are developed as part of program startup activities
  • Accountable for development of program deliverables to meet customer requirements; includes development of discipline specific plans
  • Create proposals to provide accurate and reasonable cost estimates in-line with price-to-win targets assigned to Hardware's scope. This includes validation of reasonable assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Prepare and review hardware inputs for quarterly Desktop or Comprehensive Estimate at Completion (EAC)
  • Ensure the program has the right people with the right skills at the right time in accordance with the program plan. Work with program engineering to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained on all programs; includes recommending personnel for key program assignments.


Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of 10+ years of experience in Hardware/Infrastructure Engineering or equivalent program experience
  • Management/Leadership experience
  • Experience with Earned Value/Control Account Manager
  • Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to build & motivate a team
  • Able to pro-actively solve problems and remove roadblocks; identify risks & manage them; exploit opportunities; vigilant scope/change management awareness
  • Effective facilitator; effective delegation skills; strong judgment and decision-making ability
  • Demonstrated ability to work multiple tasks and priorities and to complete simultaneous assignments with high quality and timely products
  • Able to define plans, integrate cost, schedule, and technical objectives; set priorities, adapt plans, and flow them down
  • Knowledge of engineering process & metrics and how to manage with them; excellent advocate for process improvement.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance 1 year after starting
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance


Preferred Qualifications
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
  • Experience executing Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs.
  • Experience in proposal development including Basis of Estimate (BOE) generation, cost, and technical volumes
  • Experience with development of best practices/frameworks, e.g., Agile, DevSecOps
  • Experience with Air Traffic Systems
  • Experience with audits (SCAMPI, ISO, DCMA/DCAA, etc.)
  • Existing DoD Secret level clearance
  • Experience managing a team of 20+
  • Experience with COTS hardware
