The School Improvement Portfolio has an opening for a full or part time Senior Training & Technical Assistance Associate reporting to a senior member of the School Improvement Portfolio leadership team in Waltham, Chicago, or as a telecommuter.

We provide expertise in designing and conducting research and evaluation. We also provide technical support related to data and evidence use, and apply evidence to inform policies on a wide range of issues including school-based, community-based, and out-of-school time educational programs. The Senior Training & Technical Assistance Associate will primarily work on the Regional Educational Laboratory-Northeast and Islands (REL-NEI), a federal contract with the Institute of Education Sciences that provides research and data/evidence-use support to schools, districts, and states in the Northeast region. In this role, the Senior Training and Technical Assistance Associate will oversee 15+ project teams that are providing training, coaching, and technical assistance to schools, districts, and state level educators and administrators. The Senior Training & Technical Assistance Associate will provide thought leadership to teams, strong project management support, and quality assurance on any products or materials developed. In addition, the Senior Training & Technical Assistance Associate will be part of the REL-NEI leadership team contributing to overall project success and strategic planning. Beyond the Regional Educational Laboratory responsibilities, the Senior Training and Technical Assistance Associate will participate in business development and supervision when appropriate.

The Senior Training & Technical Assistance Associate:

  • Provides expertise regarding the design and delivery of coaching, training workshops, and technical assistance for districts and state education agencies, with an understanding of adult learning experiences.
  • Conducts needs sensing and investigates solutions which may result in products, programs, services or interventions
  • Exhibits outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail; capacity to support multiple projects simultaneously and manage deadlines and deliverables
  • Problem solves and modifies approaches in consideration of practical concerns and accepts and adapts to changes in clients’ and funders’ priorities
  • Has experience working with and designing professional learning experiences for racially diverse, urban, and rural audiences
  • Oversees budgets, staffing, and project plans for both large and small projects
  • May act as Project Director on existing or future projects.
  • Manages staff at EDC and at other organizations that hold subcontracts with EDC.
  • Is responsible for initiation and execution of projects of moderate scope on a variety of school-related topics.
  • Reviews materials and reports; manages quality assurance process for technical assistance products.
  • Contributes to dissemination efforts such as conference presentations or publications.
  • Leads and/or contributes to proposal & funding planning; conceptualizes or writes major sections of proposals.

The Senior Training & Technical Assistance Associate also

  • Has the capacity to develop business and professional relationships by communicating technical information to educators, government agencies, or administrators.
  • Works with senior management and project staff on new concepts and on bringing new products &/or programs to market.
  • Guides feedback exchanges; provides expertise to others
  • Oversees administrative and logistical coordination
  • Initiates/coordinates cross-portfolio or interdepartmental efforts and activities
  • Is experienced with software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel,PowerPoint, and multimedia technology

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education & related experience in the disciplinary area, social science or public health research, education, training, curriculum design, consulting, organizational development or administrative management
  • Experience working as or with state, district, or school leaders, educational certification in a related discipline also considered
  • Project management or program development experience
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
