Lead Violin Teacher

Musica Franklin seeks an experienced, collaborative teaching artist to join our team as a lead violin teacher at our Greenfield program site for an El-Sistema inspired after school music program. This is a contracted position for 7-10 hours per week, September 2019 - June 2020. The students meet as an ensemble 3 days per week for 1.5 hours, which is divided between singing, percussion and movement, and violin instruction. One day per week the students receive individual or paired lessons on violin.

Responsibilities include:

Planning and teaching 45-minute group ensemble classes of up to 25 mixed ability students Tu-Thurs between 4:00-5:30. These classes will be supported by one other program lead teacher and one teaching assistant.

Teaching individual and semi-private lessons to program students in half-hour blocks Monday afternoons between 4:00-5:30

Supervising students for special events and field trips outside regular program hours (monthly community evenings plus 3-5 special events or field trips annually)

Support other lead teachers in classroom

Participating in weekly staff and/or curriculum meetings

Participating in staff-wide special trainings on social justice and/or other professional development topics

Substituting at our other program site during comparable hours, as needed.

Desired qualifications:

Bachelor degree or higher in music or music education

Teaching experience in an ensemble format

Ability to work collaboratively with other staff
