Are you a strong swimmer? Do you have a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills? Do you enjoy being responsible and are able to provide supervision and safety to everyone in a pool environment? If so, the YMCA of Central Massachusetts, Boroughs Family Branch is looking for you to join our amazing Aquatics Department!
We are currently seeking seasonal Lifeguards who want to be part of a great team! Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe, friendly pool environment for our patrons. Typical hours vary – weekdays, daytime, evenings, and weekends, with a preference for daytime and evening weekday availability.
Lifeguard Certification is preferred; however, we will work with you to get certified.
Prerequisites for the course are as follows:
1. Must be at least 16 years old.
2. Swim 300 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.
Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs.
4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds which involves starting in the water, swim 25 yards. Surface dive, feet-first or headfirst, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 25 yards on the back carrying the object with their face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath and exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
