Position: Sr. AWS Cloud Data Engineer
Location: Detroit, MI
Duration: 12+ Months

Job Description:
As part of our data in cloud strategy, the Cloud Data Engineer will execute the full development life cycle of integrating data from disparate sources to consolidated repositories such as the operational data store, the data warehouse, and the data lake. Designs and develops data pipelines, data ingestion and ETL processes that are scalable, repeatable, and secure. This will be accomplished by collaborating with team members and applying Cloud, ETL, database and API development skills to devise best in class solutions. We are looking for an experienced, energetic, and entrepreneurial problem solver who has successfully imagined, built, and launched data integration solutions.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Strategic Work (25%)

  • Educate and inform yourself and team members about cloud data integration technology solutions and emerging cloud trends
  • Continually participate in visioning exercises and contribute to the data strategy for VCI

Operational Work (75%)
  • Design, develop, test and deploy data integration solutions based on business requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
  • Implement Data Warehouse data quality processes. Provide solutions where issues are identified
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Continually refine and document data integration best practices for cloud
  • Educate end users (where applicable) in the use of metadata and understanding where data originates
  • Identify, evaluate and refine leading-edge data integration tools and methods
  • Build prototypes and POCs for different concepts and AWS services
  • Bring a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community
  • Collaborate with team members on data integration designs and alternatives
  • Own the development of cross-functional, multi-platform prototypes
  • Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support data analytics integration solutions.
  • Document and support deployment activities.
  • Report on status of IT Data Operations products and projects on a regular and timely basis.
  • Ensure the timely resolution of issues.
  • Follow VCI standards and guidelines.
  • Escalate anticipated risks to management promptly and properly.
  • Partner with Domain Architects and Tech Lead regarding data integration design options for our data in cloud strategy


Skills Required:
  • Solid understanding and experience in both agile and traditional project development methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills; ability to create an open environment where conflicts as to project priorities, scope and requirement decisions can be aired and resolved in an objective manner
  • Demonstrated capability to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking using logic and reason, creative and strategic
  • Integration joining people, processes and/or systems
  • Performance driven
