BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Southfield, MI is now accepting applications for their Vet Student Summer Assistant program! This is a temporary summer position working predominately in the Emergency department, but you may have some exposure to the Specialty departments. Flexible schedule needed as shifts may include, nights, days, weekends, and holidays. Total hours per week will be 36-40.This is a great opportunity for vet students to enhance their skills and learn about the Emergency and Specialty aspect of veterinary medicine.Our BluePearl Veterinary Assistants:
Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
Provide care for hospitalized patients.
Assist the clinicians with diagnostic procedures.
Triage and obtain patient history.
Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vitals signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vitals signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
Assist with phlebotomy and placement of intravenous catheters.
Assist with placement and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
Prepare prescriptions and communicate discharge orders to clients.
Have a passion for mentoring and training others.
Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
