Camp Cavell is a three-season camp located on beautiful Lake Huron in the Thumb of Michigan near Lexington, Michigan. Pre-camp staff training prepares staff to work with campers, earn certifications, and gain skills in 10 skill areas. Our Children's Resident Summer Camp and Day Camp have both overnight and a few day-only positions.

Camp Cavell is a three-season camp with most of its programming and staffing positions within an 8-10 week period in the summer. Some program staff is also needed in the spring and fall for day and weekend events. A small core staff works year-round in full and part-time positions. We also host programs for Community Groups in which we help them create day, weekend, or week camp experiences.

We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking kid-centered counselors for our 10-week overnight summer camp program. This program has 30-60 campers with girls for 4 weeks, boys for 1 week, and is co-ed for one week. We also operate a coed day camp that the summer camp counselors work closely with that is a 10-week program with up to 50 campers. Our overnight summer camp staff may also offer to program for our community groups who utilize our camp as well and they range between 100 and 150 campers.

Job Positions

Kitchen

Must have some experience in food prep (willing to train the right person) We work in morning and afternoon shifts with the morning starting according to the time and type of breakfast, but normally about 6:00. The afternoon shift tends to be from 1:00 to 9:00 but we may work later if we have had a large meal. We cook for 250 people a day in the summer. Equestrian

We need English Riding Instructors and a Director who can work 9 – 5 on average during the week and sometimes on the weekends. We teach classes in all levels from basic horse care to jumping. Looking for people with patience, enthusiasm, an eye for safety, and riding skills.

Waterfront

Looking for people to work as Lifeguards and teach swimming and boating. Must be able to complete lifeguard course (including swim formal strokes of 25 laps, dive for a body 12 feet underwater). Must be able to enforce rules while helping kids to learn and have fun. We also teach kayaking on Lake Huron.

Program Instructors

Need person to teach wood shop, nature, science, archery, crafts, orienteering, climbing, and other camp activities. We work in the spring and fall part time when groups request we teach classes as part of their program. We work full time during the summer.

Day Camp Counselors - almost full

Work with kids from the local area 8:00 – 6:00 each weekday. Mid-June to end of Aug. Must be 18. Patience, maturity, good role model, and enjoy having fun.

Overnight Counselors

Must be over 18, live on site for about 8 weeks in a cabin with 8 – 10 children. Help them in daily living skills, as well as supporting them emotionally, teaching them new skills, and helping them to make friends. Must be enthusiastic, patient, mature, and responsible. Female counselors needed for 8 weeks / Male counselors needed for 3 weeks, but can sometimes do the entire season. We have Friday night to Sunday noon off each week and a couple of hours off a day. Late June to mid-August.

Housekeeping

To clean cabins after a group has departed and to clean some general areas and bathrooms each day. Can be combined with kitchen for more hours. Duties include sweeping, straightening, mopping, and cleaning bathrooms. Some hours are flexible, but will need to work on days a group leaves to get camp ready for the next group. This is usually on the weekends in summer and weekdays in the spring and fall.

Maintenance

Grounds keeping, care of buildings, equipment, and vehicles.

Adventure Programmer

We are looking for an individual to direct our adventure programs for summer or three seasons. Although we are primarily looking for someone to facilitate our climbing programs our other adventure programs include Archery, Atlatl, Rock Scrambling, Camping, Survival, Kayaking, Wave Kayaking, Technical Tree Climbing (similar to rock climbing).

The summer season includes our 10-week overnight summer camp and day camp programs. The overnight program has 30-60 campers with girls for 4 weeks and co-ed for two weeks. We also operate a day camp that the summer camp director works closely with that is a 10-week program with up to 50 campers. Our adventure staff operates programming for our community groups who utilize our camp as well and range between 100 and 150 campers per week.
