JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician

DEPARTMENT: Operations

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

SALARY LEVEL: $13.00 to $15.00 DOQ

CLOSING DATE: July 22, 2019

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for performing building and exhibit maintenance, operating filtration equipment, routine preventative maintenance and custodial duties. While performing the essential functions of this position, the individual has regular contact with employees and guests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Maintenance 70%

Preventative maintenance for aquarium filtration system, HVAC systems, and equipment.

Daily exhibit and aquarium filtration maintenance.

Coordinate and prioritize maintenance projects including: painting, carpentry, changing lightbulbs and mechanical updates.

Positively interact with guests, volunteers and staff.

Custodial 30%

Coordinate and prioritize cleaning projects.

Perform scheduled custodial duties.

Grounds keeping: assist with snow removal, maintaining landscaped areas, and cleaning around facility grounds.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The ideal candidate will have a mechanical aptitude and basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, motors, electrical systems, standard tools and proper use of power tools. The candidate will have experience with janitorial techniques, demonstrated attention to detail, operations of janitorial equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, snow blowers, etc.), basic computer skills and the ability to maintain a valid drivers license.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED

Two years experience working in maintenance or custodial services.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and/or WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the essential functions of this job an individual must have ability to lift 50 pounds. The individual must have a flexible schedule for overnight, weekend, holiday shifts and extra hours when needed. The individual must be capable of working safely with exposures, which may include but are not limited to: dust, dirt, chemicals (sanitizing and cleaning products, chlorine and aquarium water conditioning chemicals) and humidity. In addition, the employee is regularly expected to walk, crawl, kneel, climb, perform duties from a lift, work overhead, listen and talk.
