OverviewThe University of Minnesota Medical Center is looking for a Patient Care Supervisor for our Medical ICUThis unit cares for patients with many different diagnoses including: multi system organ failure, pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, renal failure, GI bleed, pre/post bone marrow transplant, pre organ transplant (kidney/liver/lung), overdoses, and respiratory/cardiac arrest. Therapies that are utilized include hypothermia, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), paralytics, and proning.Our complex, high-acuity patients require continuous hemodynamic monitoring, intense medication management, ongoing critical thinking, and excellent communication with team members and families. This is a faced-paced and highly technical medical environment.Responsibilities/Job DescriptionThe Patient Care Supervisor (PCS) is responsible for assisting the Manager with the daily operations in the Medical ICU.This includes:Supervising the staff, including but not limited to hiring, discipline and performance evaluations.

Responsibility for projects as delegated including a focus on meeting the needs of our customers, collaboration with nursing and physician leadership to implement and evaluate standards of practice, and utilization of process improvement methodologies to assure safe and quality patient care.

Assisting with staff education as needed.

Being a role model for patient care and customer service, working closely with our physician partners.

Supporting orientation of new employees to role, department and organization.

Assisting with development and completion of annual staff competencies, monitoring compliance and takes action for non-compliance.

Supporting staff development and learning opportunities to meet identified needs.

Maintaining appropriate staffing by adjusting volumes to meet the needs.

Monitoring and prioritizing assignments to assure timely, productive, and efficient use of resources.

Collaborating with Nursing and Provider leadership to implement and evaluate standards of practice

QualificationsMinimum EducationBachelor’s Degree in Nursing, If bachelor’s is not in nursing then must have a master’s degree in nursing

Minnesota RN license

BLS

3 years clinical nursing experience

Preferred Experience1 year leadership experience
