Sr. R&D Engineer

Location: Plymouth, MN

Duration: 12-month contract with opportunity for extension

Job Responsibilities:


  • Apply the product development process to a derivative product line.

  • Develop and coordinate small projects, as asked by the project team

  • Understand the requirements of cross-functional internal customers.

  • Apply technical principles, theories, and concepts in the R&D engineering field.

  • Develop, troubleshoot, qualify, and/or validate fixtures, equipment, and test methods utilized to evaluate product design.

  • Assist in preparing engineering drawings with specifications and tolerances.

  • Create test plans/protocols, perform testing, and analyze and document results.

  • Apply statistical techniques and interpret test results.

  • Generate engineering change orders.

  • Complete tasks associated with area of responsibility within assigned schedule.

  • Present technical findings or task status to cross functional teams through meeting minutes, presentations, design reviews and other means of communication.

  • Maintain required documentation per GDP procedures.

  • Perform job functions in accordance with applicable GMP and ISO standards.


Basic Qualifications:

Requires a University Degree (Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related technical field) and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Specialized Knowledge or Skills Required


  • Experience in the Medical Device Industry

  • Experience developing products

  • Experience developing and qualifying fixtures/tooling/equipment

  • Experience developing and validating R&D test methods (e.g. GR&R, MSA)

  • Experience with Design Verification and Design Validation Testing

  • Experience using statistical techniques (e.g. use of statistical software like Minitab, DOE, Monte Carlo, ANOVA, or Six Sigma tools and principles);

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative
