Saint John's University invites applications for the full-time, benefit eligible position of Dining Lead at Saint John's University (Sexton Commons). This position serves as the lead afternoon and evening (2nd shift) food production position. Under the administrative supervision of the Manager at Sexton Commons Dining Area, this position is responsible for afternoon and evening preparation of food, supervision of staff (student and non-student), providing customer service to guests and carrying out policies and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible to be the lead person for the daily production of food in Sexton Commons Dining. Ensures that all food is properly prepared, attractively presented, and maintained in compliance with current local & Minnesota Food Code regulations & guidelines.

Assign duties to Sexton staff during afternoon and evening shifts. Supervise full time, part time and student employees who work in the production and service areas of Sexton Commons Dining and assists in training.

Must have working knowledge of all equipment and train employees on safety procedures.

Records and requests food supplies as needed. Assist the manager with maintaining proper inventory levels and with Sexton End of Month Inventory during the academic year. Maintain employee Illness log and temp log records for afternoon and evening shifts as applicable.

Responsible for continuing to prepare Daily Special items into the evening hours each day and have a knowledge of all food stations and their respective offerings. Will record the appropriate information on daily production sheets and review student employee shift reports daily.

Acts as a leader in setting and maintaining department sanitation and safety standards. (Clean and proper uniforms, sanitary work habits, organized work areas, use of cleaners, etc.) Maintain a clean and sanitary operation in accordance with state and local standards, which includes dining areas, kitchen, storage room, dish room and retail area.

Handle cash/MICROS cash registers and keep accurate accounts of all types of transactions.

Attends required meetings and training sessions called by the Dining Service Department.

Provide quality service all customers, which includes a diverse student body, professional staff and all guests. Ability to not only delegate tasks, but to act as a mentor and teacher to student employees.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have current State of Minnesota Food Manager Certificate (or the ability to obtain this certification).

Capable of physical activity including lifting (up to 50lbs), walking and standing for prolonged periods.

High school education with a minimum of two years of food preparation training or previous professional cooking experience.

Available to work Sunday-Thursday during the SJU academic year as well as some Saturdays during SJU Football season. Regular evening and weekend assignments as required by departmental schedules.
