DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S & YOUTH MINISTRIES
Job Summary
The Individual in this position is passionate and shares his/her love of God and the Church. It is preferred that this person have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related field. Other experience as a youth director or equivalent work experience in a closely related field may be substituted in lieu of a degree. This position is a part-time position averaging 25 - 30 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Build strong relationships with children, youth, parents in the church and community
Report to the pastor weekly
Be a leader in the Confirmation Program (with pastor leading opening, being a Group Guide, steering suppers and carpooling)
Accompany youth to camps, youth gatherings, seminars, special events
Lead summer pilgrimage experiences: ELCA National Youth Gathering, mission trip or outdoor adventure trip
Call children and youth to actively identify needs and ministry opportunities within congregation and community
Assist in coordinating youth-led fundraising and/or donation efforts to offset special event costs
Develop biblically and theologically Lutheran educational materials that are engaging and creative
Provide learning opportunities to engage youth in meaningful faith conversations
Develop detailed calendars (September thru August) for these 3 departments: Frolic & Sunday School; Confirmation; Senior High Youth Group
Communicate on a regular basis to children, youth and parents (via MailChimp, newsletter, website, texting/Remind)
Utilize Youth Ministry Support Team (YMST) to plan, develop, implement, recruit, etc.
Coordinate volunteers to assist with programs in Children’s and Youth Ministries
Establish goals and objectives for ongoing children’s ministries and youth ministries in the life of the congregation
Involve students in the ministry of the church as a whole, supporting and participating in Peace’s mission and worship services
Ambassador of congregation and Christian Church in the wider community
