Maritime Engineer – Vessel and Marine Engine Technician

Hager Development Group, LLC. Headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA seeks a qualified candidate to perform maintenance, repair, and operational testing of non-standard maritime craft.

Position includes travel in the local area using Government transportation ifs required to survey, ship check, and/or validate the quality of repair. Crafts consists of commercial crafts up to 100 gross tons powered with inboard and outboard motors, and jet or propeller propulsion. Duties to perform Intermediate Level maintenance and repair on owned and operated maritime Surface Support Craft (SSC), Watercraft (Jet Skis) and inboard/outboard motors (IN/OBM), conduct scheduled maintenance and interim repairs to approximately 16 maritime craft of various construction to include: aluminum and fiberglass hulls, inboard and outboard gasoline and diesel engines, and jet or propeller propulsion systems.

The Contractor shall be responsible for:

· Performing a full range of maintenance and repair work to marine gasoline and diesel powered, inboard and outboard, 2 and 4 stroke engines.

· Servicing and repairing boat trailers including repair of axles, wheel hubs, bearing, brakes, tire changing and lighting systems.

· Checking engines using troubleshooting techniques and test equipment. Disassembling motors to examine parts for defects.

· Performing maintenance and mechanical overhaul of associated motor parts including water pumps, generators, inverters, steering, and navigation and auxiliary equipment.

· Scheduling preventive maintenance, including tune-ups, greasing, oil changes, and control adjustments to all fleet boats and motors.

· Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing fiberglass and aluminum boat hulls. Performs woodworking, painting, welding, and fiberglass repairs, as necessary.

· Planning, modifying, repairing, and maintaining hydraulic and electrical winch systems used in trawling for biological samples. Constructing and modifying sampling gear.

· Installing electrical wiring for navigational lights, radar, GPS/ chart-plotter, marine radio, fathometer, and other associated electronic equipment on boats.

Coordination Tasks:

· Performs work planning and establishing maintenance and inspection schedules.

· Establishes priorities based on general work schedules and policies set by higher levels.

· Maintains production reports and records for the unit.

· Develops maintenance packages for commercial repair.

· Coordinate’s delivery and retrieval of equipment between commercial repair facilities and the government.

· Accompany and assist government representatives to support the NSM mission with inspections, ship checks, surveys, troubleshooting, identifying required repairs, conducting maintenance, and performing post service inspections of craft, provide advice and make recommendations to the government as to quality craftsmanship of repair performed.

Personnel Qualifications:

· 5 years’ experience in troubleshooting and repair of craft auxiliary systems.

· Possess a 100-ton U.S. Coast Guard License in order to operate maritime craft and vessels up to 100 gross tons to perform water tests after vessel repairs and maintenance are completed.

o Operation of vessels includes boat docking, casting off, fueling, steering, and navigation.

· 3 Years’ experience reviewing and using operational logs to track equipment operational hours and auxiliary system readings such as oil pressures, temperature readings, engine/equipment Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) fuel pressures, battery voltage etc. to schedule required maintenance and identify required higher level maintenance and repairs, making recommendations to the government for potential repair.

· 5 years’ experience using specialty tools such as torque wrenches, timing and fuel rack adjustment tools, feeler gauges, depth gauges as part of routine maintenance and equipment diagnostic processes.

· 2 years’ experience researching parts and materials and obtaining quotes as necessary and providing the quotes to the government to obtain repair and maintenance parts and materials.

· Possess a valid state Driver’s License and be certified to operate forklifts up to 12,000 lbs.
