The Network Engineer II, Broadband role will work closely with the Broadband Network Deployment colleagues, and other departments. Potential candidates should reflect a basic understanding of IP technologies, Layer 2 and Layer 3 transport and Wi-Fi.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares time lines and costs for deploying commercial customer facing networks.
  • Works extensively with various equipment vendors to make critical decisions dealing with equipment selection, implementation and troubleshooting of current and future network architecture.
  • Creates and maintains Visio diagrams/drawings of the proposed infrastructure and its related elements including interconnectivity to existing network appliances.
  • Facilitates and manages projects with authorized contractors.
  • Communicates with the acting Broadband Engineering Department Manager concerning projects on a weekly and potentially daily basis depending on project sensitivity.
  • Trains and shares information with other departments to ensure cross functional transfer of knowledge company-wide.
  • Works closely with both Commercial Sales and customers to organize deadlines, schedule potential timelines, and gather engineering critical information. Works closely with Outside Plant (OSP) resources and completes Service Inquiry documents relative to engineering critical information and does so in a timely fashion.
  • Acts as a liaison between Commercial Sales and Broadband Network Engineering in an effort to ensure the customers' expectations are exceeded.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Level II
    • REQUIRED
      • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent experience required.
      • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in the telecommunications and/or data industry required.
      • Experience with of Layer 2 transport and IP connectivity required.
      • Demonstrated knowledge of the benefits of Wi-Fi technology and its short-comings required.
      • Excellent personal computer skills are required with emphasis in Windows, Excel, and Word.
    • PREFERRED
      • Working knowledge of TDM architecture is a plus.
      • Prior history working directly with customers and/or sales is preferred.
      • Network + and/or CCNA level certification desired.
      • Broad experience with vendor equipment and products is preferred, including but not limited to: Nokia Cisco Systems, Adtran, Juniper, Nortel, Fujitsu, Adtran - Blue Socket, Aerohive, and Occam-Calix.
      • Experience with Netcracker software suites desirable.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use computer keyboard and/or mouse, while viewing computer screen.
