The Boeing Enterprise Computing Products & Capabilities (ESPC) team is seeking Experienced Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer to join us at one of our locations including: Hazelwood, Missouri, Plano, Texas, Mesa, Arizona or Long Beach, California to develop embedded security software for real-time, embedded flight software on safety critical and mission critical avionics systems constrained by size, weight, and power (SWaP) and cyber assured environments.

These systems must meet the highest levels of safety standards, levels of rigor and design assurances required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Defense (DOD) and National Security Agency (NSA) certification authorities as they are deployed on latest Commercial aircraft, Defense platforms and weapons systems, including un-piloted and autonomous vehicles of the future.

The ideal candidate for this role is experienced at device, infrastructure, or security software development for avionics, utilizing rigorous design practices, efficient and automated processes and tools, to delivery on-time, high quality, safety assured and cyber assured software. An experience, understanding and proficiency with reading schematics and using debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc would be beneficial. Some experience with hardware root of trust and NIST cryptographic standard compliant software is also desired.

This is not a position for security compliance adjudication (i.e. static security scan result interpretation and compliance checking). The focus is on secure boot and secure operations of processor (ie. Xilinx UltraScale+) for embedded applications.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Guide and participate in embedded real-time software design such as Board Support Packages (BSPs) and other low-level software
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and concepts to design, develop, test, and peer review component and system level software
  • Develop, document and maintain software requirements, architectures, interfaces, algorithms and designs
  • Develop code and integrate complex software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develop software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met
  • Execute and document software research and development projects


This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience in programming in C, C#, C, Java, Python or Visual Basic
  • 3+ years of experience in embedded real-time software development


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience developing software requirements/test methodology
  • Experience in C, C or Ada programming
  • Experience with the Agile Software development lifecycle
  • Experience in Visual Studio or Eclipse
  • Experience with the following tools: ClearCase, Git, ClearQuest, JIRA, Bit Bucket
  • Experience with real-time embedded software development using VxWorks, Green Hills, DDC-I DEOS Operating System, and Linux
  • Experience with Avionics Systems
  • Experience with ARINC-653, DO178A/B/C development and test
  • Active Security Clearance


Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
