Description

Responsible for performing comprehensive inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. Assist with major mechanical repairs. Must have a full understanding of how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations, and is crucial to the safe and productive operation of the company fleet.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform routine vehicle maintenance and preventative care.

Perform assigned repairs and preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups, filter replacements, tire rotations, minor adjustments, etc.

Complete required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

Perform routine safety inspections.

Maintain accurate, updated preventative maintenance records.

Assist drivers in completion of the daily post-trip and vehicle safety inspection process.

Identify damage and mechanical problems and perform repairs accordingly.

Communicate issues with maintenance technicians/managers/drivers on company vehicles and discuss preventative techniques that may minimize future repairs.

Ensure CSA violations are identified and fully repaired prior to releasing equipment to operations.

Assist other mechanics with repairs as requested by supervisor.

Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures, and follow established techniques to perform job duties.

Ensure shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition.

Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Company and OSHA Standards

Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Required

High School diploma or G.E.D.

Three (3) to six (6) years of heavy diesel truck maintenance experience

Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles

Must have own tools appropriate for position

Demonstrated ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of heavy duty trucks

Strong problem solving and decision making ability

Preferred

Solid waste industry or ancillary experience

Certified technician or completion of a certified diesel program.

Commercial Driver’s License, Class A or B

Brake Inspector Certification

DOT Inspector Certification

ASE Certification

609 Certification
