Summary: This position will start as long-term W2-contract (salary plus benefits plus OT) and is expected to transition to permanent. This will not be a heads-down programming position, though knowledge of programming is required as this team provides plant support. This position will manage third party companies who do the programming. Role will help with standards, liaise between these teams and the project managers. Experience with Allen Bradley PLC and HMI is required.

Electrical Controls Engineer

Location: St. Louis, MO

Initial term: 18 months (position expected to transition to FTE)


Provide or oversee scoping, development, implementation and support of Control System programming and integration solutions for capital projects; Technical assistance and support to all Factories; knowledge and dissemination of technical information relative to area of responsibility; Provide quality control of delivered software solutions; Maintain alignment of controls solutions with the business needs, internal and external customers and Subject Matter Experts. Recommend, specify and procure instrumented systems and devices.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Capital Projects: corporate representation for capital projects to drive automation programming and implementation initiatives and standards, liaison to customer for project details and information, seek to leverage capital projects to meet automation vision as well as synergize and coordinate resources while keeping a focus on the future for our technical vision.
  • Define, scope, schedule, develop, and coordinate automation projects of varying sizes and importance with appropriate supervision from conception through completion.
  • Draws on depth of personal experience to approach problems through a series of complete and conceptually related studies to deal with difficult problems which require unique or novel approaches.
  • Continually seeks out and applies methods, procedures, practices and technology to improve performance level and efficiency of assigned tasks.
  • Interacts with Factory Leadership, plant personnel and various corporate disciplines to obtain input required to provide customer accepted product.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Competency in PLC and PC-Based HMI / SCADA Design, Programming and Implementation.
  • Working knowledge of PC operating systems and Industrial networking.
  • Capable of S.I.S. (Safety Instrumented Systems) design, programming and validation
  • Competency in Instrumented Systems specification and design.
  • Technical writing skills to support instrumentation and control system guidelines.

Basic Qualifications (Minimum):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in industrial power and control systems design.
  • Allen Bradley PLC

  • Skills preferred: Electrical Controls Design, Systems Integration, PLC Programming, Hardware and Instrument Specification, Schematics and P&ID layout, Safety and Q.A., Datalogging, RSLogix, Modicon, Intellution iFix, Risk Assessments and S.I.S. Experience with Ignition would be great!
