Job Description

Title: Foreperson/Supervisor

Reports to: Superintendent

Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Foreperson directs and manages all on-site construction workers, subcontractors and equipment, enforcing the company's direction, policies, procedures and safety standards, while meeting construction deadlines.

Duties & Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

• Lead and direct people, equipment, and resources for all construction.

• Ensure sufficient deployment and productivity of all work crews.

• Always engage in open communication with the Superintendent and Project Manager; always report any

issues which could affect the project plan.

• Use survey equipment to ensure proper grading or ask for grade checker when needed.

• Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, equipment and utilize

corrective action to keep the project on time and on budget.

• Ensure subgrade materials and base gravels are laid to contract specifications.

• Enforce equipment operators have the proper JSA to properly operate equipment.

• Quantify and complete time and material/change order authorization as deemed appropriate.

• Observe asphalt and subgrade to determine potential quality control issues and apply necessary corrections.

Specifically, identifying segregation, drainage issues, densities and other quality concerns of the job.

• Identify and execute best practices concerning the efficient use of construction materials.

• Plan work in an efficient and effective order, maximizing progress in a safe and timely manner.

• Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met.

• Ensure all company equipment is lawfully operated, cared for, maintained, and used correctly.

• Read and interpret project plans and specifications.

• Operate heavy equipment and other construction duties as necessary.

• Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with, the principles of the company's Safety and Code of

Safe Practices as well as the Fleet Safety Management Guidelines and Policies.

• Monitor and manager employee attendance, ensuring timely arrival and participation of all crew members.

• Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead and direct base crew.

• Liaise between the company and employees on a variety of employee related matters.

• Comply with relevant legislation regarding employee management, terminations, and resignations.

• Handle and thoroughly investigate all employee concerns.

• Ensure consistent and fair application of the progressive disciplinary policy.

• Other employee supervision duties as required.

• Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety program and encourage all employees to adopt safety as

a culture.

• Conduct daily and weekly safety tailgate meetings.

• Review safe work plans with crew prior to job commencement.

• Work with the Safety Director to investigate damage, incidents, or near misses in the worksite, and ensure

proper procedures are carried out according to the Company's Safety Program.

• Work in a safe responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the

well being of others.

• Participate as a vital team member and contribute towards the success of the company.

• Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred.

• Valid Driver License.

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the construction field.

• Knowledge of heavy equipment operation.

Working Qualifications:

• Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and

exposure to dust and asphalt.

• Lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under

adverse field conditions.

• Lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time

without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects.

• Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination, good depth

perception and the ability to set controls quickly, precisely and repeatedly.

• Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically

associated with a construction project.

• Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease,

curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.

• Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

• Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis.

• Use of personal protection equipment is required.

• Use of appropriate safety equipment is required.

• Be able to work overtime when required.

• Must have strong work ethic.

• Ability to work in a team setting.

• Communication skills; ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors and the general

public in a courteous, professional manner at all times.

• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

• Pass Pre-employment drug screening and maintain compliance with the company's drug and alcohol testing

requirements.

• Pass Pre-employment physical and medical evaluation.

• Must comply with the company's Fleet safety Management Policy & Accountability to Safety Code of Safe

Practices.

• Must comply with company's Discrimination & Harassment Prevention Policy & Correction Policy.
