Associated Employers is looking for a Software Development Manager to join our top-notch software development team. In this role, you will oversee the staff and workload of the development team toward achievement of goals and collaborate with other developers, clients and internal teams to design computer applications and programs. Responsibilities include writing and debugging code, so we are looking for applicants familiar with JavaScript and other common programming languages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with management, clients and/or internal teams to identify end-user requirements and specifications.
  • Assesses feasibility of design and project parameters within time and cost constraints.
  • Develops code in APIs and designs the front-ends of very large systems based on user specifications budget, security needs, and other parameters.
  • Repairs and troubleshoots existing websites and software to correct errors or improve performance.
  • Monitors and assists with software testing and validation procedures and programming.
  • Monitors and assists with software installation; ensures application operates within established specifications.
  • Gathers and evaluates user feedback and then modifies software for better usability.
  • Participates in occasional pair programming sessions.
  • Designs simple and attractive interfaces with excellent UX.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Plans and directs work, ensuring that work schedules are adhered to and assigning specific duties to staff.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training employees. Conducts staff evaluations, job performance management (including coaching/counseling), and corrective action.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate staff training and education programs are provided. Schedule and conduct regular [weekly] staff meetings.
  • Demonstrates effective management of a team toward achievement of goals, including appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience as software developer or engineer required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with writing code in JavaScript and JavaScript acceptance testing experience required.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Handlebars, LESS, Ember.JS, RESTful API-centric designs, and Git preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines.
