POSITION SUMMARY:

Children spend a considerable amount of time in preschool. As a result, these settings may have an influence on their diet, weight, and food security, and are potentially important contexts for interventions to address nutritional health. The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is one such intervention. Through utilizing the CACFP program the Nutrition Staff encourages teachers to participate in meals with children to develop a family style eating program, where staff and students gather together at the table to share meals. Nutrition Staff prepares meals for HNELC within CACFP guidelines and works closely with the coordinator to make sure all CACFP policies and procedures are being met. Focuses on living the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepares and dishes breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack for each classroom within CACFP guidelines.

Develops and coordinates food service.

Creates monthly menus following CACFP guidelines.

Creates a grocery list for items needed each week.

Purchases food on a weekly basis, staying within a budget allowance; Keeps inventory of food and rotates old food while putting away new purchases.

Ensures that all CACFP Meal Preparation Sheets are being completed and meals are entered into Procare daily.

Under the direction of the Coordinator and uses information about children’s allergies, food preferences, and special diet recommendations appropriately for menu planning

Washes all dishes used in lunch preparation

Maintains and cleans kitchen, food preparation and serving areas in compliance with all applicable health, sanitation and safety standards.

Prepares and presents reports; Submits a copy of the dated monthly menu to the Coordinator; Submits food purchase receipts to Coordinator monthly; Keeps daily attendance on enrollment at meals

Completes and maintains current USDA/Child Care Food Program records.

Completes required CACFP training.

Promote effective communication and cooperation with staff.

Enhances program quality. Attends staff meetings; Attends training locally and out-of-town as applicable; Participates in evaluation of self and program.

Supports teachers where needed when not preparing/serving meals.

Assists with other tasks as they arise.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of one year experience working with children preferred.

At least 16 years of age.

Must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check

Infant/Child/Adult CPR, First Aid and AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.

Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate

program activities.

Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

OTHER DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITY

Ability to read, interpret and implement documents such as governmental regulations, rules, and procedure manuals.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage workflow.

Knowledge of basic nutrition guidelines.

Two years of experience in this field is preferred.

Passion for good food or food education.

Ability to work as a part of a team.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to lift 30lbs. Ability to work safely in a kitchen and follow safety procedures.
