Peter Pan Seafoods is hiring for the summer of 2019. Peter Pan Seafoods operates a shoreside salmon processing facility in King Cove, Alaska. King Cove, located 600 air miles SW of Anchorage at the end of the Alaska Peninsula is home to Peter Pans largest processing facility. The plant, with origins back to the early 1900s, has the largest salmon canning capacity of any plant in Alaska. All five species of salmon are abundant in the waters nearby King Cove.
This summer we will need over 450 employees to help us process all this wild-caught salmon. We will be canning the majority of the salmon, but we also fillet, dress whole fish to be fresh-frozen, and make salmon caviar. It is an intense task to accomplish all that needs to be done in the short window of opportunity that Mother Nature gives us.
THIS MEANS THERE SHOULD BE PLENTY OF OVERTIME HOURS
We are seeking individuals that, first and foremost, are not afraid to get their hands dirty, and secondly, know what it means to work hard. Work hours may be as long as 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. During this period of time, we eat, sleep, and work. The majority of the jobs that we are seeking to fill are entry-level processing positions; and become available June 15th through approximately August 15th.
All first-year employees will be paid at least $10.87 per hour for all regular hours worked. Overtime pay is $16.31 per hour. We pay straight time for the first 40 hours per week and overtime for anything over 8 hours per day.
The King Cove Facility is a union operation. All employees will be required to join the union, at a cost to the employee of around $138 for the season and a $25 initiation fee. This will be deducted from earnings once you start work.
