HOURS: Full-time (40 hours/week)

JOB SUMMARY: The Flagship Program is a community-school partnership that enhances the social, academic, cultural, and physical achievement of Missoulas youth by creating opportunities that help them to succeed and grow to become healthy and productive adults.

Duties include development, scheduling, implementation, and oversight of afterschool and summer programs for all youth enrolled in Flagship. Position will work closely with school staff in arranging and marketing of afterschool and summer programs, families to communicate information, and youth in program enrollment. The Youth Development Coordinator (YDC) is required to attend Flagship staff meetings and trainings, and may be asked to attend school meetings. Position also involves recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers and community partner instructors who conduct afterschool and summer programming for The Flagship Program. As a non-profit organization, Flagship relies on fundraising; YDCs will be expected to support community fundraisers indirectly and directly. The YDC position is responsible for enrolling youth, tracking attendance, reporting program and community partner data including grant-specific reporting requirements as needed, and implementing evidence based practices. The position requires lesson planning, aligning with school day expectations, problem solving, and filling in for instructors who are absent.

Essential Job Responsibilities: At least three years of experience working with young people, families and youth service agencies. Experience working in program development desired and/or experience in a school setting is preferred. Ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, and should demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as within a team. Ideal candidate will also demonstrate an ability to interact with adults and young people in a positive manner.

Education: Bachelors Degree in human services or related field, and/or demonstrated, relevant and equivalent experience in human service and/or working with youth.

Flagship Core is an afterschool engagement strategy geared towards supporting youth at CS Porter Middle and Franklin and Hawthorne Elementary Schools. Flagship Core will work with the same children, five days a week in an afterschool intervention that provides academic and behavioral support and enrichment opportunities with community partners.

Flagship Core Teacher

5 days per week after school, 20 hours per week

(1:30-5:30pm M-W, F, 1:00-5:00pm TH)

Temporary part-time position at $25/hour

Qualifications:

Experience working with children (ages 5-18 is preferred)

Valid Montana Teaching License with appropriate endorsement Demonstrated successful experience working with students.

Knowledge and experience in the implementation of reading and math interventions preferred. Knowledge and training in the administration of STAR 360 preferred.

Ability to maintain an effective and positive instructional classroom environment.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, parents, staff, and the community. Ability to handle stressful situations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.

Other qualifications as deemed appropriate.

Behavior and classroom management experience (training provided)

Experience working with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds

Flexibility, resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt to the needs of the children and program

Responsible and hard-working with good leadership and communication skills

Must successfully complete application process and pass background check

Responsibilities and Duties:

Teach students individually or in small groups. Target instruction to increase skills and strategies in reading, mathematics, and organization/study skills.

Develop and present specific lesson plans, using a variety of instructional approaches to meet diverse learning needs.

Monitor, assist, and evaluate student growth and performance.

Maintain order in the classroom and employ MBI strategies and consequences to achieve proper behavior.

Coordinates with Flagship Youth Development Coordinator, MTSS Tier 2 team and student teachers to provide appropriate afterschool interventions.

Counsel students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.

Keep records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation

Communicate with parents on a regular basis.

Work with community partners to provide afterschool enrichment activities.

Develop and implement project based learning activities for students that support school day learning.

Report cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.

Participate in staff meetings, professional training seminars, and workshops.
