Woman with Quadriplegia
Hi, I am your client. I've been home about 6 years after spending a year in several hospitals trying to survive a badly broken neck I succeeded! I hold a PhD in Clinical Psychology. More important is that I have quadriplegia, mostly paralyzed from the neck down, yet there are many things I can do. I enjoy getting outside, especially into the wilderness. I enjoy adapted sports, physical therapy, working out, reading, yoga and meditation. I wish I could say all my days are filled with fun and peace, but some days are different, filled with pain and problems, and I need to focus on getting through the day. I get through these days by believing in the love and support of my family and friends, and, I especially depend on my assistants to help me.
The daytime caregiver performs the morning routine, which involves range of motion, transferring to shower/commode chair, toileting, showering, getting dressed, help with meals and medications, help with exercises, etc. Week-day afternoons usually involve driving me to appointments and participating in some (learn to help with PT), running errands, working on home projects, doing exercise programs, or going for a walk. The daytime caregivers 1) keep track of the medical supply inventory, 2) help with the staffing schedule, 3) promote consistency across all caregivers and assist with training as necessary, 4) assist with managing medication, and 5) generally help me navigate my life.
Someone seeking rewards and challenges and is open to the personal growth that results will be happy here. I need someone who truly feels satisfaction from helping another, someone dependable, honest, and has a good sense of humor. Someone who has 1) strong skills in care-giving, 2) a mind for multitasking and organization, and 3) good computer skills. This person should be interested in getting to know me and committed to helping me increase the skills I am working on.
