Carpenter or Handyman, NOT afraid of insects or wildlife + CHALLENGES!

Dear Job Seekers,

Custom West + The Great Divide Wildlife Company is looking for highly talented and daring individuals who would like to make a career out of helping others with their pest problems. Custom West has been in business for 37 years here in Western Montana. We are a group of bug fighters, wildlife specialists, ecologists, and land and facility management specialists. We like investing in our staff and ourselves to become the very best in our fields. If you would like to work with a group of motivated, happy, and hardworking people who will value your knowledge and skillset while earning an actual living, come and talk to us!

The position is collaborative (where we work in teams) and solo. Each day offers new challenges and things to learn and engage in. This is not an easy job. This is a (mostly) fun job. We earn our reputation as knowledgeable professionals by investigating how pests enter homes and performing bio-cleanup of soiled infestations. Then, we treat, repair, and create an environment inhospitable for those pests. Our General Insect Technicians cover much of Western Montana. From the Bitterroot, just West into Idaho, up North through the Flathead, the Seeley Lake corridor, and then out East to Homestake Pass and Butte. For our Wildlife Technicians and Facilities Personnel, we cover nine Western States.

We welcome interested individuals with quality work ethics and integrity. We are much more interested in your desire to create great customer experiences and your dedication to quality and professionalism. If you want to bring expertise or a degree in a related field, we look forward to discussing your journey and experience in our area. However, if you are just new and curious, that is also an excellent stepping-off point. That said, there are some core qualities that lead to success. Since we work on all areas of homes, businesses, ranches, and facilities, you MUST be comfortable and knowledgeable about using ladders, working on slopes and at heights, in crawlspaces, and attics. You must be willing to get DIRTY to investigate the sources of problems. To crawl around and be on your hands, knees, stomach and back. Think, See, and Move like the pests we hunt. Then, once you find the cause, clean up the mess and repair the problem. This can mean working on cabinets, siding, windows, doors, roof venting, etc. This is work for those who love to solve problems and professionals who want to make environments safer and more secure. Our mission is to remove fear and instill confidence in those we serve. What we do matters, you will matter, and your talents and attitude NEED to reflect this fundamental cause.

Team members are compensated based on the revenue they generate. Additional compensation is paid based on your years of service, the education and experience you obtain, test on, and show competency in. We also pay based on customer happiness. Our revenue share/performance pay system translates to an hourly rate between $28 - $31 for new team members and upwards of $40 - $50 for senior team members.

In addition to significant compensation, we offer flexible shifts of 4/10, 5/8, or heck for those highly motivated to bring in the money while still delivering outstanding experiences; we have techs who will do bursts six days a week. After all of that hard work, you need some deserved time off. We assume each team member will work about 49 weeks per year. For every ten weeks of completed work, you accumulate one day of PTO. In year one – you earn a week. You can use PTO at any point once it is achieved, and there is no cap on how much PTO you can bank. In year three, PTO is earned at one day every five completed weeks, and in year six, PTO accrues at one day every three weeks. In addition to the PTO accrual, you can win PTO for fantastic work! We give away the coveted one week of PTO of your choosing during hunting or fishing season, and we also give away two long paid holidays per year.

To round off everything, we are a group of quirky individuals who try to support and care for each other in any way we know how. While having fun and learning to become better people and better stewards of this incredible place we live! Many learning opportunities, conferences, and travel are available to our team members. Please feel free to inquire about this in your interview. If you are looking for a job to be proud of, respect for what you know and do, and have the ability to earn a living without having to devote your whole life to the job, this is that opportunity.

What do you think? Have I made an excellent case to come and join this Motley Crew of Pest + Wildlife Professionals? If so, please write us a letter, e-mail, or hieroglyph on a napkin. Tell us who you are and why we would love to work together. Please include any relevant education and work experience. Also, give us enough juicy tidbits to understand who you are and where you have come from. If your submission inspires us and we can decipher any symbols of ancient language you have included, we will have you join us for a beverage, talk with the team here, and go for a ride-along. After that, if we are all smiles and excited, we look forward to offering you a home with our family!
