Since 1985, Data Security, Inc. has been the world leader of National Security Agency (NSA) approved degaussers for the Department of Defense (DoD). As data storage technologies continue to evolve, the NSA continues to develop new standards for erasing, sanitizing and disposing of data storage media. Through innovative design, we hold several patents for hard drive degaussers, tape degaussers and hard drive destruction equipment.

The Electrical Engineer position is responsible for the design of mechanical and electromechanical subsystems and products. Through innovation, efficiency and principled design practices, this position works as a member of the engineering team to fulfill market driven needs.

Essential Functions

Work with engineering team, vendors and internal customers to develop mechanical and electromechanical products for industrial and commercial applications

Degausser magnetic design, to include permanent magnet and electromagnetic design

Electrical component selection for new product design

Panel, circuit board and wiring design on new and existing products

International design and power configuration for new and existing products

Develop and design mechanical and electromechanical subsystems and products by studying customer requirements and market driven needs

Conduct research on emerging technologies and identifying opportunities for applying such technologies to achieve superior results

Conduct research and analyze data and specifications to evaluate the feasibility, design, operation, performance, cost and requirements of new product designs

Prepare, review and revise documents related to product designs, revisions and production procedures

Assure product quality by developing inspection and test protocols

Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations

Design equipment and processes to an acceptable level of customer safety requirements and expectations - mitigate product hazards and liability issues

Identify and follow work place safety requirements and procedures

Provide information and support to the Manufacturing team

Provide information and support to the Sales and Service teams

Other duties as assigned by the lead Electrical Engineer or the Director of Data Security, Inc.

CompetenciesRemain current with latest technical innovation and emerging technologies in the mechanical engineering field by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks or participating in professional societies.

Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost/benefits analysis to maximize the effective manufacture of products.

Basic electrical/electronic/magnetic knowledge

Experience in the following software: Microsoft Office Applications, Integrated development environment for machine firmware and logic controller programming, and CAD Applications; schematic capture, circuit board layout, illustrations for customer documentation

Magnetic and electromagnetic finite elements analysis

Manufacturing Resources Planning Applications - item definition and BoM entry

Competency using vendors' component parametric searches

Ability to work with basic electronic instruments: multimeter, oscilloscope, wave form analyzer, signal generator, counter/timer and magnetometer

Ability to read and interpret data sheets to match best available parts to new product requirements

Ability to develop and design circuits, including permanent magnet circuit design, electromagnetic coil/circuit design, wiring plans and component layouts

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected

Work Environment

This job operates primarily on a manufacturing floor.

Physical Demands

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to walk or stand. The employee is occasionally required to bend, twist or reach as well as lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision preferred and the ability to adjust focus between multiple tasks.

Availability

40 hours per week, must be available 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday. Must be willing to travel/work outside of normal business hours.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Education and Experience

Advanced Engineering Degree with 2 or more years experience in mechanical engineering
