The Supervisor will provide support to a team of coders. This person will act as the “go to” person for questions and issues. This includes but is not limited to; training and mentoring of team, reviewing coding documents, delegating work assignments and resolving personnel issues and disciplinary actions in conjunction with the department manager and Human Resources. This position will code charge tickets. Performs all coding functions and assists other areas in the billing department as assigned by the manager.ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to): Aids in monitoring coding team Research and answer questions and concerns of team members Communicate management goals and objectives to team Communicate changes to the rules and guidelines to the staff Resolve personnel issues and disciplinary actions in conjunction with the department manager and Human Resources. Assist with staff evaluations Assists and coordinate training of new employees Identify training needs of staff and coordinate learning sessions on these matters Codes Anesthesia charge tickets Reviews CPT, ICD-9, ASA and HCPCS coding on charge tickets Reviews anesthesia records for supporting documentation for charge tickets Reviews medical records for supporting documentation for charge tickets May require sending back to the providers for additional information, copy chart and give to manager to be scanned. Review all incomplete or inaccurate charge tickets that are sent back from the billers for additional information and make copy of charge ticket, date stamp, pass to coder for correction. Identify cosmetic and/or prepaid cases and ensure two tickets are created, one for insurance and one for patient responsibility. Deliver charge tickets to assigned bin in the billing area. Drop of twice per day (unless otherwise notified) at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. Assist Demographics, Billing, Insurance Verification and AR Department as needed. Communicates issues and questions to management when appropriate. Assists with updating and maintaining all policies and procedures for the department. Maintains strictest confidentiality. Mentor employees, conduct performance evaluations, counsel and provide disciplinary actions to assigned personnel, and works to facilitate individual and team development that drives positive results. Other duties as assigned by managementREPORTING TO THIS POSITION: Coding StaffQualificationsJOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, ASA and HCPCS coding. Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Workers Compensation rules and regulations. Knowledge of organization policies, procedures and systems. Skill in computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel. Skill in verbal and written communication. Skill in gathering and reporting information. Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians and external customers. Must have a pleasant disposition and be a team player. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Must report to work consistently, on time, and for expected duration. Communicate well with the publicEDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: High School graduate or equivalent. Associate degree in business administration or related area preferred.
